After Utah's incredible beam performance on the first night of the NCAA Championships, it should come as no surprise that all six "beamers" made the All-America team. Shannon Bowles, who had the highest score across both sessions (9.95), Melissa Vituj, Theresa Kulikowski and Theresa Wolf made the All-America first team. Deidra Graham and Kylee Wagner were named second-team All-Americans. The only time a gymnast can become an All-American is on the first day of the championships.
Including their sweep of awards on the balance beam, the Utes tabulated 13 total All-America performances (list is below). Seven of the nine Utes who competed came away All-Americans. Vituj, just a freshman, claimed a team-high three citations, making the first team on beam and floor and the second team on vault. Kulikowski was a first-teamer on the bars and beam and Wolf made first-team All-American in the all-around and on beam. In addition to their balance beam honors, Graham was a first-team All-America all-arounder and Bowles made the second team on the floor. Two first-time All-Americans were Wagner, second team on the beam, and Veronique Leclerc, second team on the bars.
The first-team Utes will all compete on Saturday night in the individual event finals. Ute All-Americans, their places and scores from opening night, follow. The all-around places are across both sessions. All other places are from the second session only:
