Las Vegas, Nev. - Utah continued Mountain West Conference play on the road against UNLV, winning the first game 5-2, and losing the second one, 7-4, on Sun., Apr. 8. Utah is now 24-17-1 on the season, 5-2-1 in MWC play. The Rebels move to 21-17-0 overall, 2-2 in the MWC.
In the first game, Niki Hayhurst was 3-for-4 with and RBI and freshman Melissa Stahnke went 1-for-4 with a home run, one run and an RBI. Michele Larsen had two hits in three at bats, along with an RBI. Teammate Lyndsey Trevis added a double in the game. Kristin Arbogast tallied the win for Utah. Arbogast pitched seven innings, giving up six hits, one earned run, four walks and struck out four in 33 batters faced. As a team, the Utes went 7-for-26, with five runs and five RBI.
For the Rebels, Linda Garza notched two hits, along with an RBI. Geney Orris took the loss for UNLV.
Utah's seventh inning comeback was not enough as the Rebels held on to win, 7-4. The Utes managed 12 hits in 31 at bats, along with four runs and four RBI. Stahnke went 2-for-4 with two RBI. Trevis was 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI. Larsen recorded three hits and an RBI, while teammate Molly McLean posted three hits and two runs, respectively. Arbogast recorded the loss, pitching five innings and giving up 10 hits, four earned runs and zero walks. She moves to 18-12 overall.
Orris went 3-for-4 with four RBI for the Rebels. Kacey Ellis notched the win for the Rebels. She improves to 9-6 overall.
UP NEXT: On Wed., Apr. 11, Utah will face Utah State in a non-conference doubleheader match-up in Logan, Utah at 2:00 p.m. The Utes host in-state rival Brigham Young on Sat., Apr. 14 at 12:00 p.m. (DH) at Ute Field. On Tues., Apr. 17, Utah travels to Cedar City, Utah to meet the Southern Utah Thunderbirds for a doubleheader at 1:30 p.m. The Utes are back in action at home on Fri., Apr. 20, hosting Colorado State at 1:30 p.m. (DH). On Sat., Apr. 21, Utah will take on the New Mexico Lobos in a twinbill at 12:00 p.m. The Utes will face the UNLV Rebels on Fri., Apr. 27 at 1:30 p.m. (DH) and the San Diego State Aztecs on Sat., Apr. 28 at 12:00 (DH) at Ute Field.
