SALT LAKE CITY -
The University of Utah gymnastics team is the No. 1 ranked team in the nation this week, vaulting past Georgia after a week at No. 2. Utah, whose season average is a 196.942, is also ranked No. 1 on bars (49.325), beam (49.392) and floor (49.417).
The top 10 as of Jan. 28 is: 1. Utah (196.942), 2. Georgia (196.333), 3. Oklahoma (195.942), 4. Nebraska (195.731), 5. Alabama (195.692), 6. Iowa State (195.375), 7. Arizona (195.331), 8. UCLA (195.145), 9. Michigan (194.956), 10. LSU (194.925).
Utah has numerous individuals ranked in the top 10 as well. Two-time NCAA balance beam champion Theresa Kulikowski is No. 1 on both the beam (9.933) and the floor exercise (9.937). Number 1 on the bars last week, Kulikowski has dropped out of those rankings despite a 10.0 on bars in the last two meets. A fall in the first meet counts towards her average.
Remarkably, Utah has four of the nation's top 10 ranked all-arounders: No. 2 Melissa Vituj (39.475), No. 4 Veronique Leclerc (39.425), No. 7 Deidra Graham (39.342) and No. 10 Shannon Bowles (39.275). Utah also has four top-10 beam workers in No. 1 Kulikowski (9.933), No. 3 Bowles (9.908), No. 7 Graham (9.858) and No. 10 Leclerc (9.850). Bowles is also third on bars (9.90).
Utah meets No. 10 LSU this Friday in Baton Rouge.
