ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The No. 25 ranked Utes (9-1-3, 2-0-1 MWC) rolled to a 0-0 tie against conference foe New Mexico, Sunday afternoon at the UNM Soccer Complex. This tie marks the Utes' fourth double-overtime game this season.
This aggressive bout was a good test for Utah as both teams were evenly well matched. Both teams had countless opportunities to score as the game lingered into double-overtime.
Utah outshot the Lobos by a margin of 16-12. Senior forward Shauna Gurr-Bingham and junior forward Missy Dennis both contributed with four shots a piece. Julie Herdic chipped in with two shots. The Utes challenged UNM's goalkeeper Kristen Winters throughout the contest as she walked away with four saves.
Utah's defense battled extremely well once again. Junior keeper Lynnsey Asay-Kimball earned the shutout, while finishing with five saves.
Although this game with New Mexico puts a dent in the Utes impressive four-game winning streak, they will be eager to get back home and take on the Aztecs of San Diego State. The Utes will challenge San Diego State, Thursday, Oct. 24 at 3:00 p.m. on Ute Field.
