OGDEN, Utah - Utah's No. 25 ranked women's soccer team beats out Weber State in a shutout victory, 1-0. This win puts the Utes (7-1-2) on a two game winning streak going into next week's action.
Utah's only goal was scored by freshman Katie Battazzo. The freshman's goal came 74:06 in off an assist from senior forward Shaun Gurr-Bingham. This goal marked Battazzo's first goal of the season. The Utes outshot the Wildcats by an incredible margin of 25-5 and goalkeeper Courtney Hills-McBeth earned the shutout victory. Hills-McBeth snagged two saves on the night.
Gurr-Bingham has garnered four assist thus far this season and has put herself one step closer to the record books. She is ranked second behind former Ute Staci Burt with 20 assists in her career. Burt's record stands at 21 assists. This tenacious forward has been on a tear this season, making her mark in several categories. She has surpassed former Ute Jacki Doman for the fourth-place ranking in points. Doman's old record stood at 63 points, but Gurr-Bingham's new record stands strong at 68 points.
Gurr-Bingham is also on the heels of Lorrie Tipton for the fourth-place ranking in goals. Tipton's record stands at 25 goals and Gurr-Bingham has 24 goals so far this season. With five games remaining and the conference tournament ahead, it is only a matter of time before the record books are broken again.
Utah will be back in action next week as they face Wyoming and Air Force. The game with the Cowgirls will be played Oct. 10 at 3:00 p.m. in Laramie, Wyo. and the Air Force bout will be held Oct. 12 at 10:00 a.m. in Colorado Springs, Colo.
