Despite a close 196.125-196.100 loss at LSU last Friday, the University of Utah gymnastics team remains No. 1 in the nation for a second straight week. Utah was one of seven teams that scored above a 196.00 last weekend and one of only three who did so on the road.
The top 10 teams this week, based on season average: 1. Utah 196.731, 2. Georgia 196.421, 3. Oklahoma 196.044, 4. Alabama 196.000, 5. Nebraska 195.805, 6. Michigan 195.521, 7. Stanford 195.406, 8. Iowa State 195.375, 9. Arizona 195.300, 10. LSU 195.225. The Utes also held onto their No. 1 ranking on the balance beam (49.381) and floor exercise (49.375), but they slipped a place to No. 2 on the uneven bars (49.144).
Utah has three all-arounders ranked in the top 10: No. 2 Melissa Vituj (39.475), No. 4 Veronique Leclerc (39.375) and No. 8 Deidra Graham (39.312). Three Utes are in the top 10 on the balance beam: No. 2 Theresa Kulikowski (9.937), No. 3. Shannon Bowles (9.906) and No. 7. Veronique Leclerc (9.858).
Utah competes at Washington this Friday.
