The No. 4 ranked Utah gymnastics team faces a pressure-packed night at the 2002 NCAA West Region Championships at Oregon State University on Sat., April 6. The meet starts at 6:00 p.m. PST in Gill Coliseum. For live scoring, choose the large graphic link on the Utah gymnastics page or go to www.osubeavers.com.The Utes, who are ranked No. 4 in the country, must place in the top two of the six-team field to advance to the NCAA Championships in Tuscaloosa, Ala., April 18-20. Utah is the only team in the nation to qualify for all previous 20 NCAA Championships and the Utes have made the cut for nationals every year of their existence as a varsity sport, dating back to the 1975-76 season.
Utah will put five all-arounders on the floor in its quest for a third-straight regional title. The Utes have won 13 of their last 14 region championships. The last time they failed to win was in 1999 in Corvallis, when they finished second to UCLA. Utes scheduled to compete on all four events at the West Region meet are seniors Shannon Bowles and Deidra Graham, junior Theresa Kulikowski, sophomore Melissa Vituj and freshman Annabeth Eberle. Other Utes who will compete in the region championships are senior Lindsay Tanner, junior Kim Allan and sophomore Veronique Leclerc.
