Jacobson, Utes Roll Past IPFW

SALT LAKE CITY - Nick Jacobson scored a season-high 22 points as Utah won its sixth straight game, defeating Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne 76-59 on Saturday.
Jacobson made 6-of-7 from beyond the 3-point line as Utah scored 14 3-pointers, the second best in school history. Tim Frost and Richard Chaney each added 12 points for the Utes (11-3), who have won nine of their last 10 games.
The Utes, who average 36 percent from 3-point range, made 8-of-10 3-pointers in the first half and led 46-24 at halftime.
David Simon led IPFW (3-14) with 15 points. The Mastadons have lost nine of their last 10 games.
Utah's quick passing kept the ball one step ahead of the Mastadons' defense, giving the Utes open shots around the perimeter. Utah outscored IPFW 18-0 in points off turnovers in the first half. IPFW led 5-3 before Jacobson capped a 16-4 Utah run with his third 3-pointer and Utah led 19-9.

Minutes later, Chaney's 3-pointer led to nine consecutive points and the Utes were not challenged again.
Utah had a season-high 24 assists and IPFU was well out of reach until the Utes subbed extensively. With two freshmen and two walk-ons finishing the game for Utah, the final score was as close as the Mastadons got in the second half.
The Utes were the sixth Mountain West Conference opponent for the Mastadons, who have lost all their games against MWC teams.
As an independent playing its first year at the Division I level, IPFW has traveled the country in search of opponents. IPFW played its 14th game away from home while Utah played its fourth game of five straight at the Huntsman Center, where the Utes improved to 8-0.
