The University of Utah gymnastics team received four first-place votes and was ranked No. 4 in the preseason coaches poll, released on Jan. 1. Ranked No. 1 was UCLA, Utah's season-opening opponent on Jan. 10 in the Huntsman Center. The Bruins are one of 10 ranked teams on Utah's 2003 schedule. The others are No. 6 Michigan, No. 8 Florida, No. 9 Louisiana State, No. 10 Arizona, No. 11 Minnesota, No. 13 Oregon State, No. 15 Arizona State, No. 17 Washington and No. 23 Brigham Young.
