Sophomore forward Richard Chaney (6-4, 195) is third in scoring (10.0 ppg), shooting 55.7 percent from the field and 38.9 percent from three-point range. Sophomore guard Tim Drisdom (6-2, 212) leads the Utes in assists (3.2 apg). Senior forward Tim Frost (6-9, 244), who has had two double-doubles in the last three games, is second in rebounding (4.6 rpg) and fourth in scoring (7.4 ppg).
Scouting Cal State Northridge
The Matadors are 2-3 overall and 0-3 on the road this season. Cal State Northridge has been off since Dec. 6 when it lost at San Jose State, 55-49. The Matadors opened the season with a home win over Menlo College (88-64) on Nov. 21, then dropped a pair of road games at Loyola Marymount (81-70) on Nov. 25 and USC (75-69) on Nov. 30 before defeating Montana (72-63) at home on Dec. 3.
Junior forward Chris Davis (6-9, 230) leads the Matadors in both scoring (14.0 ppg) and rebounds (5.4 rpg). Junior guard Davin White (6-1, 185) is second in scoring (13.6 ppg), hitting 33.3 percent from three-point range, and first in assists (4.0 apg) and steals (2.6 spg). Junior guard/forward Ian Boylan (6-6, 215) is third in scoring (12.6 ppg), hitting 41.7 percent of his three-point tries (10-of-24). Freshman center Thomas Shewmake (6-10, 250) is the fourth player averaging double figures in points (10.2 ppg) and is second on the team in rebounding (5.0 rpg).
Head Coach Bobby Braswell
Bobby Braswell has a 113-97 record in his eighth season at Cal State Northridge and as a head coach. Last season, the Matadors went 14-15. In 2000-01, Braswell led the Matadors to their first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance, their first-ever Big Sky Conference regular-season title and first-ever conference tournament title. Northridge went 22-10 that season and 13-3 in Big Sky play.
Before returning to his alma mater, Braswell was an assistant coach at Oregon (1992-96) and Long Beach State (1989-92).
Utah vs. Cal State Northridge Series Notes
* The Utes and Matadors meet for the sixth time on Friday night.
* Utah won the five previous meetings, which all took place in Salt Lake City.
* The teams last met on Dec. 14, 1991 in the Huntsman Center with Utah prevailing 75-58.
* Rick Majerus is 1-0 all-time against Cal State Northridge, facing the Matadors for the only time in 1991.

Jacobson Stroking "J"s
Senior guard Nick Jacobson (6-4, 206) has been a third team all-Mountain West selection the last two seasons. This season, he is second on the team in scoring (11.0 ppg), hitting 46.2 percent (18-of-39) from beyond the arc and 9-of-13 free throws. He was named to the Preseason NIT all-tournament team.
* Jacobson has already climbed into 22nd place in career scoring at Utah with 1,152 points. He is one of just 30 players in the 1,000-point club and currently ranks behind Greg Deane (1,212 points). Jacobson is also tied for first place in career three-pointers made (206), drawing even with Keith Van Horn's total against LSU. Jacobson reached the mark in 103 games while Van Horn needed 122. Jacobson is also second in three-pointers attempted (485) at Utah. His career three point percentage of 42.2 entering this season ranked fourth all-time.
Boasting Of Bogut
Freshman forward Andrew Bogut (6-10, 233) leads the team in both scoring (11.4 ppg) and rebounding (10.7 rpg) while shooting 60.5 percent from the field in 29.3 minutes per contest.
* In the NCAA statistical rankings released on Dec. 16, Bogut was 11th in field goal percentage (67.3) and 12th in rebounds per game (11.1).
* Against LSU, Bogut had his fourth double-double of the season with 11 points (5-9 FG, 1-2 FT) and 11 rebounds in 30 minutes. It was the sixth time he scored in double figures and the fifth time he had at least 10 rebounds this season.
* Second on the team with 19 assists (2.1 apg) this season, Bogut led the Utes with a season-high tying five assists against Utah State.
Frost Rounding Back Into Form
Senior center Tim Frost (6-9, 244) established himself as a strong interior presence in his first season with the Utes, earning second team all-Mountain West honors in 2002-03. Frost has been working his way back after having to sit out the first month of the season with a sore back. He returned to practice on Nov. 18 and played in his first game against Minnesota one night later. Currently, Frost is fourth on the team in scoring (7.4 ppg) and second in rebounding (4.6 rpg).
* In the last three games, Frost has averaged 12.7 points and 8.0 boards. He had his first double-double of the season with 15 points and 10 rebounds against San Diego on Dec. 6. Frost had his second double-double in as many games with 13 points and 12 rebounds against Savannah State. He also tied a career-high with four assists. Frost then had his third consecutive double-figure scoring game with 10 points against LSU. He has started the last seven games, playing at least 23 minutes six times.
Game #9 Rewind
LSU's Jaime Lloreda and Brandon Bass combined for 31 points as the Tigers defeated Utah 65-51 Tuesday night at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.
LSU (5-0) held a 42-30 rebounding advantage, had nine steals and committed just eight turnovers; while Utah (6-3) shot a season-low 34.8 percent from the floor.
Andrew Bogut led Utah with 11 points and 11 rebounds to get his fourth double-double of the season. Justin Hawkins and Tim Frost had 10 points each, but the Utes were held to under 60 points for the sixth time this year.
Lloreda, who missed periods of the second half due to a finger injury and foul trouble, led LSU in scoring for the fourth time this season with 16 points. Bass added 15. Darrel Mitchell came off the LSU bench and posted his fourth consecutive double-figure game with 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the floor.
Lloreda, Bass and Regis Koundjia each had eight rebounds, helping LSU dominate the offensive glass by a 17-7 margin.
Leading 15-11 with 11:41 to play in the first half, LSU went on a 15-2 run over the next nine minutes and led 30-19 at the half. The Tigers surged to a 17-point lead a little over a minute into the second half, but the Utes chipped away to cut the margin to 52-43 with 6:18 to play. LSU then responded with a 7-1 run.
Getting Defensive
One of the trademarks of a Utah team during the Rick Majerus era is a stifling half-court defense. Since 1989-90, Utah has ranked in the top 30 in the nation 11 times in scoring defense, nine times in rebound margin, eight times in field goal percentage defense and eight times in scoring margin.
* In the NCAA statistical rankings released on Dec. 16, Utah led the nation in both scoring defense (46.9 ppg) and field goal percentage defense (33.9), and 22nd in rebound margin (+4.6 rpg). Currently, opponents are averaging 52.1 points per game and shooting 38.4 percent against the Utes. Utah also has a +3.7 rebound margin.
* Utah has held six of its nine opponents to less than 40 percent from the field and three teams to under 40 points. Savannah State shot 18.2 percent against the Utes on Dec. 13, which is the lowest field goal percentage for a Utah opponent all-time. San Diego shot just 30.0 percent against the Utes on Dec. 6. Only one team (UConn at 62.3 percent) has shot better than 50 percent from the field against the Utes this season.
* Utah has not allowed an opponent to score 80 points in 104 consecutive games that have ended in regulation. The last team to score 80 points on the Utes in a 40-minute game was Wyoming (88) on Feb. 28, 2000 in Laramie, Wyo.
From Beyond The Arc
Utah has connected on at least 40 percent of its three-point field goals in five games this season, winning all of them. Conversely, when the Utes shoot under 40 percent from beyond the arc, they are 1-2.
* The Utes shot a season-best 50.0 percent from three-point land (7-of-14) against Stony Brook in a 51-48 win.
* In its 43-point win over San Diego, Utah hit a season-best 10 three-pointers in 23 attempts.
* The Utes had made a three-pointer in 152 consecutive games before going 0-for-8 against Georgia State in a 46-38 win on Nov. 17. The last time Utah didn't make a three was during an 0-for-12 outing at Long Beach State on Dec. 5, 1998.
Ute Items
* Turnovers have been a problem for the Utes so far this year. Utah averaged 18.0 turnovers during the first five games, including a season-high 21 against Georgia State in the opener. Since that opening stretch, Utah has improved slightly in that area with 14 turnovers in three of the last four games (Utah State, San Diego and LSU). The Utes also had a season-low 12 turnovers with a season-high 24 assists against Savannah State on Dec. 13. Utah has had a positive assist/turnover ratio in just two of the nine games this season.
* Utah has made significant progress at the free throw line. After shooting just 26.8 percent (11-of-41) from the stripe against Stony Brook, Texas Tech and UConn (getting losses in the late two games), Utah has shot 69.9 percent (58-of-83) the last three games.
Utes Tough At Home In The Huntsman Center
Utah is 200-18 (.917) in the Huntsman Center during the Rick Majerus era and has never lost back-to-back home games. With Majerus on the bench, taking out the games he missed during the 1989-90 and 2000-01 seasons, the Utes are 182-13 (.933) at home.
* The Utes have won 138 of their last 146 games in the Jon M. Huntsman Center, dating back to the 1993-94 season.
* More recently, Utah has won six in a row (including a 5-0 record this season) and 22 of the last 23 at home. Its last loss in the JMHC was to Colorado State on March 6, 2003, which ended a 16-game home winning streak.
* Utah has won 20 consecutive nonconference games in the Huntsman Center, last falling to Utah State (78-65) on Nov. 23, 2001.
