Ute Gymnasts Remain No. 1
The 2-0 Utah gymnastics team is ranked No. 1 for the second straight week in the new national poll, issued Monday. Utah's wins are against former No. 1 UCLA and former No. 3 Nebraska. Utah will meet Brigham Young, which broke into the rankings this week at No. 11, on Friday in Provo.
The last time Utah was ranked No. 1 for two straight weeks was in the Jan. 28 and Feb. 4, 2002 polls. The new rankings are based on high score for the final time this season. Next week, they will move to average score.
In addition to its No. 1 team position, the Utes are ranked No. 1 on the vault (49.625 high) and the uneven bars (49.40 high). Individually, junior Annabeth Eberle is No. 1 this week on vault (10.0) and No. 5 in the all-around (39.625). Freshman Rachel Tidd is tied for third on vault (9.975) and fifth on bars (9.925). Senior Melissa Vituj is tied for third on beam (9.95).
