Utah took a 13-11 lead on a three-pointer by Chaney with 15:12 left in the first half and stayed ahead the rest of the way. The Utes led 42-27 at the half.

The Utes had season-best percentages from both three-point land (57.9) and the field (62.2). Utah's hot shooting night helped them control the boards 31 to 19. The Utes also had a season-low 10 turnovers with 20 assists on 28 baskets.
Andrew Bogut scored 11 points and pulled down seven rebounds for the Utes. The Utah starters averaged 27 minutes of play and accounted for all but 20 points of the Utes' scoring.
Boasting Of Bogut
Sophomore forward Andrew Bogut (7-0, 240) has been named the 2004 John R. Wooden Preseason All-America Team and a preseason candidate for the Naismith Award. Last season, Bogut was honored as the Mountain West Conference Freshman of the Year, second team all-MWC and second team All-District 13 by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC). He also made the CollegeInsider.com all-freshman team.
? Bogut had double-doubles in the first three games this season to bring his career total to 17. He has scored in double figures in all four games. Bogut leads the Utes in scoring (18.5 ppg), rebounds (10.0 rpg), field goal percentage (60.0) and blocked shots (9).
? Bogut had a career-high 23 points and the fourth 20-point game of his career against Washington last Thursday. He also tied a career-best with seven free throws made (in 10 attempts). It was also the eighth time in his Ute career that Bogut had at least three blocked shots in a game.
? Against High Point last Friday, he had his 20th career double-figure rebounds game, his 25th double-figure scoring game and his 17th career double-double. Bogut also tied his career high with 14 field goal attempts.
Take Note Of These Utes
? Junior forward Bryant Markson has scored in double figures the last two games. Markson, from Monrovia, Calif., had a career-high 13 points against High Point, making 5-of-10 from the field and 1-of-2 three-pointers. He had 12 points against Furman, going 4-for-9 from the field and 3-for-4 at the free throw line. Markson also had a career-best eight rebounds against Furman.
? Sophomore forward Justin Hawkins is off to an excellent start this season, scoring in double figures in all four games. The Anaheim, Calif., native is second on the team in scoring (14.5 ppg) and tied for third in assists (2.5 apg). Hawkins set a career-high with 18 points against Washington. He made 7-of-15 from the field against the Huskies to set career-best marks in makes and attempts. Hawkins had a career-best five assists against High Point.
They've Got The License To Shoot
Want to have the go-ahead to shoot a three-pointer if you play for the Utes? You have to earn your license first. A Ute player earns his "License to Shoot" from the coaching staff by making 35 of 50 three-pointers from all over the floor during a drill that can be attempted once a day. It must be completed five times before the season. Utes who have earned their "License to Shoot" for 2004-05 are Andrew Bogut, Richard Chaney, Tim Drisdom, Casey Iverson, Justin Hawkins, Marc Jackson, Jonas Langvad and Bryant Markson.
? Utah is shooting 37.8 percent from three-point range this season. The Utes have shot 40 percent or better twice this year, hitting 40.0 percent (4-of-10) against Stony Brook and 58.3 percent (7-of-12) against High Point. The leading three-point shooter on the team is Marc Jackson, who is hitting 58.3 percent (7-of-12) from beyond the arc.
? Utah has made a three-pointer in each of the last 36 games. The Utes had made a three-pointer in 152 consecutive games before going 0-for-8 against Georgia State in a 46-38 win on Nov. 17, 2003. The last time Utah didn't make a three before then was during an 0-for-12 outing at Long Beach State on Dec. 5, 1998.
? The Utes have ranked in the top 35 in the nation in three-point percentage four times in the last five years. Utah ranked 21st in the NCAA in three-point field goal percentage (38.7) in 2003-04. That accuracy also helped the Utes rank 30th in the nation in field goal percentage (47.1) last season.
Getting It Done At The Free Throw Line
The Utes have done an excellent job of getting to the free throw line and converting this season. Through four games, Utah is shooting 76.1 percent from the charity stripe, leading the Mountain West Conference in that category. The Utes have made 83 free throws while their opponents have attempted just 53.
? Four Utes are hitting over 70 percent from the line this season: Tim Drisdom (91.7), Marc Jackson (88.5), Justin Hawkins (76.2) and Andrew Bogut (71.4).
Getting Defensive
One of the trademarks of Utah basketball in recent years has been a stifling half-court defense. Since the 1989-90 season, Utah has finished in the top 30 in the nation 12 times in scoring defense, 10 times in rebound margin, eight times in field goal percentage defense and eight times in scoring margin.
? Utah has not allowed an opponent to score 80 points in 132 consecutive games that have ended in regulation. The last team to score 80 points on the Utes in a 40-minute game was Wyoming (88) on Feb. 28, 2000 in Laramie, Wyo.
? The Utes have outrebounded the opposition in three of the four games this season, and had a push in the other game (vs. Stony Brook in the season opener). That continues a trend from last season when the Utes outrebounded 30 of 33 opponents. Utah has also allowed just one opponent to shoot better than 50 percent from the field this season (Washington at 53.4 percent in a loss).
? In the final 2003-04 NCAA statistical rankings, Utah ranked fifth in scoring defense (57.4 ppg) and fifth in rebound margin (+7.4 rpg).
