The Runnin' Utes continue a five-game homestand against Colorado on Thursday, Dec. 30, at 8:07 p.m. (MST) in the Jon M. Huntsman Center. Utah then hosts LSU on Monday, Jan. 3 at 8:07 p.m. (MST).

Quickly On Utah
Utah (8-3) opens a five-game homestand against in-state rival Weber State (4-6) on Tuesday at 7:07 p.m. (MST) at the Jon M. Huntsman Center (15,000) in Salt Lake City. The game will be broadcast on Hot Ticket 700 (KALL-AM) and the Utah Sports Network. The Utes are 5-0 at home this season.

Utah closed out its pre-Christmas schedule with three consecutive wins. In their last game, the Utes picked-up their first win on an opponent's court this season with a 92-76 victory over Cal Poly last Wednesday. Utah started it winning streak with an 81-66 win over Northern Colorado on Dec. 17, then recorded a 66-37 victory over Coppin State on Dec. 20; both games took place in Salt Lake City.

Sophomore center/forward Andrew Bogut (7-0, 240) leads the Utes in scoring (19.0 ppg), rebounding (10.5 rpg), blocked shots (23) and field goal percentage (63.1). Bogut has eight double-doubles this season. Senior guard Marc Jackson (6-1, 175) is second in scoring (12.2 ppg), hitting 56.1 percent of his three-point attempts (23-of-41) and 89.2 percent of his free throws. Junior forward/guard Richard Chaney (6-4, 195) is third on the team in scoring (11.5 ppg). Sophomore forward Justin Hawkins (6-5, 220) is the fourth Ute scoring in double figures (10.1 ppg) and is second in rebounding (4.2 rpg). Junior guard Tim Drisdom (6-3, 210) leads the Utes in assists (4.0 apg) and has a 2.31 assists to turnover ratio.

Scouting The Wildcats
Weber State is 4-6 this season and 1-4 on the road. The Wildcats have lost five of their last six games, including two in a row with losses at Utah Valley State (71-58) on Dec. 20 and to BYU (79-61) at home on Dec. 23.

Junior center Lance Allred (6-11, 230) leads the Wildcats in both scoring (17.8 ppg) and rebounding (11.3 rpg). Allred is also shooting 53.8 percent from the field. Junior guard Terrell Stovall (6-3, 185) is the other Wildcat averaging double figures in scoring (10.1 ppg), hitting 82.9 percent of this free throws, and is also averaging 2.3 assists per game. Junior forward Troy Goodell (6-6, 210) is seconding on the team in rebounding (5.9 rpg) and fourth in scoring (7.3 ppg) while shooting 42.3 percent from three-point range (11-for-26).

Head Coach Joe Cravens
Joe Cravens is in his sixth season as Weber State's head coach with a 96-61 record. He has a 151-113 career mark in his 10th season. In 2002-03, Cravens led the Wildcats to a 26-6 overall record, a 14-0 mark in the Big Sky Conference to win the regular-season league title, and a berth in the NCAA Tournament. Weber State lost to Wisconsin 81-74 in the first round. Cravens was named the 2002-03 Coach of the Year in the Big Sky Conference, NABC District 13 and USBWA District 8.

Before becoming a head coach, Cravens was an assistant coach at Utah for three years. During the 1989-90 season--his first at Utah--Cravens filled in as acting head coach when Rick Majerus had heart surgery and posted a 12-12 record. Cravens departed Utah after the 1991-92 season to become the head coach at Idaho, where he went 43-40 in four years.

Utah-Weber State Series Notes
? Utah and Weber State meet for the 33rd time on Tuesday. Utah leads the all-time series 20-12 and has won eight of the last 10 meetings, including three in a row. The teams have met every year since 1993.

? After Weber State took two in a row in 1999-2000 and 2000-01, the Utes have captured the last three meetings. Utah won last season, 70-60 on Jan. 3 in Ogden, Utah.

? Utah has a 13-3 edge in games played in Salt Lake City. The Utes won their last game in the Huntsman Center against WSU, 72-58 on Jan. 3, 2003. Weber State took the previous game in Salt Lake City, 79-77 on Dec. 9, 2000 to break a nine-game home winning steak in the series by the Utes.

? Ray Giacoletti is 5-6 all-time against Weber State, including a 3-2 mark in home games. The last time Giacoletti faced Weber State, his Eastern Washington team won 72-53 on March 9, 2004 in the Big Sky Tournament semifinals in Cheyney, Wash.

? Utah is 113-47 (.706) all-time against the Big Sky Conference. That mark includes a 73-14 (.839) record in home games.

Last Meeting
Utah guard Nick Jacobson scored 28 points to lead the Utes to a 70-60 win over in-state rival Weber State last season on Jan. 3 in Ogden, Utah. The win was Utah's third straight victory over the Wildcats.

Jacobson was practically unstoppable for the Utes as he shot 8-of-12 from the field, 7-of-7 from the foul line and 5-of-7 from behind the three-point arc. The Utes also got a solid performance from center Andrew Bogut, who scored 16 points and grabbed six rebounds. As a team, Utah made 56 percent of its shots from the field in the contest.

The Wildcats never got closer than six points in the second half. Every time Weber State tried to make a run, the Utes destroyed their momentum.

Slobodan Ocokoljic led the Wildcats with 27 points. Teammate Lance Allred also contributed a strong game as he scored 14 points and grabbed five rebounds.

Utah jumped out to a 39-30 lead in the first half, thanks to 60 percent shooting from the field and solid defense. Utah held Weber State starters Jon Hamilton and Nic Sparrow to a combined 0-for-2 shooting in the first half. Sparrow finished with five points and Hamilton was scoreless.

Jacobson got things rolling for the Utes as he connected on all five three-pointers and scored 15 points in the first half. As a team, Utah was also 6-of-11 from behind the arc in the first 20 minutes. Weber State only managed to shoot 38 percent in the first half.

The Old Oquirrh Bucket
Tuesday night's game continues the competition for the Old Oquirrh Bucket in 2004-05. Named after the Oquirrh Mountains to the west of Salt Lake City, the Old Oquirrh Bucket is the symbol of in-state basketball supremacy in Utah. The trophy is awarded every year to the in-state college team (Utah, BYU, Southern Utah, Utah State and Weber State) which has the best win-loss record against in-state competition.

So far this season Utah is 1-1, Utah State is 4-0, Southern Utah is 1-1, BYU is 1-2 and Weber State is 0-3. Utah has won the Old Oquirrh Bucket 13 times since its inception in 1974-75, including the last two seasons. The Utes also claimed the trophy six years in a row from 1994-95 through 1999-2000.

Boasting Of Bogut
Sophomore forward Andrew Bogut (7-0, 240) has been named to the 2004 John R. Wooden Preseason All-America Team and is a preseason candidate for the Naismith Award. Last season, Bogut was honored as the Mountain West Conference Freshman of the Year, second team all-MWC, and second team All-District 13 by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC). He also made the CollegeInsider.com all-freshman team.

? Bogut leads the Utes in scoring (19.0 ppg), rebounds (10.5 rpg), blocked shots (23), steals (15) and field goal percentage (63.1). He is also second in assists (2.6 apg), and is shooting 72.9 percent from the free throw line. He has led the Utes in scoring seven times and rebounding 10 times this season.

? Bogut has had double-doubles in eight of the 11 games this season to rank first in the nation in that category. He has 21 double-doubles in his career.

? Bogut has scored in double figures all 11 games this season, bringing his double-figure scoring streak to 13 consecutive games.

? He has five 20-point games this season to bring his career total to eight.

? In the NCAA statistical rankings released on Dec. 21, Bogut was 18th in field goal percentage (64.0), 12th in rebounds per game (10.4) and 46th in blocked shots per game (2.1).

? Bogut had his fifth 20-point game and his eighth double-double by getting 23 points (9-16 FG, 5-8 FT) and 12 boards against Cal Poly on Dec. 22. He also had three assists and two blocked shots.

Jackson Back In Action
Senior guard Marc Jackson (6-1, 175) has rejoined the team for his senior year after electing to take off the 2003-04 season. Through 11 games this year, the Salt Lake City native has scored in double figures seven times. He is the Utes' best three-point shooter, hitting 56.1 percent and making 23-of-41 from beyond the arc. Jackson is second on the team in scoring (12.2 ppg), field goal percentage (58.2) and free throw percentage (89.2).

? Jackson has scored in double figures in four of the last six games. He had 18 points--his second-highest scoring game this season--against Northern Colorado on Dec. 17. Jackson shot 5-for-6 from the field, 4-for-5 from three-point range and made all four free throws. He has scored in double figures in seven of the 11 games overall this year.

? In the NCAA statistical rankings released on Dec. 21, Jackson ranked 30th in free throw percentage (89.2).

? In the last four games, Jackson has had 19 assists and eight turnovers. Jackson had a career high tying six assists against Cal Poly on Dec. 22, marking the seventh time in his career he had at least five assists in a game.

Chatter About Chaney
Junior Richard Chaney (6-4, 195) is in his second year as the starter at small forward. This season, Chaney is Utah's third-best scorer, averaging 11.5 points a game. He is also shooting 39.1 percent (9-for-23) from three-point range and 83.8 percent at the free throw line.

? Chaney has shaken off a slow start to the season by scoring in double figures in six of the last eight games. Chaney had a season-high 21 points (7-9 FG, 2-2 3FG, 5-5 FT) and a career-high four assists against Cal Poly on Dec. 22.

? Chaney has had two 20-point games this season, bringing his career total to five. Chaney scored 20 points against Montana-Western on Dec. 8, shooting 8-for-10 from the field and 4-for-5 at the line.

? The Los Angeles native has four 20-point games in his career. Chaney had a career-high 27 points against Pepperdine on Jan. 5, 2004. He made 10-of-16 field goals and 5-of-7 three-pointers in 31 minutes. Chaney also set a career-best mark for threes made against Pepperdine.

Getting It Done At The Free Throw Line
The Utes have done an excellent job of getting to the free throw line and converting this season. Through 11 games, Utah is shooting 73.3 percent from the charity stripe, ranking second in the Mountain West Conference in that category.

? The U. ranked 34th in the NCAA in free throw percentage (74.8) as of Dec. 21.

? The Utes have made 176 free throws while their opponents have attempted just 142. Utah is 8-1 when it has more free throw attempts than its opponent this season.

? Four Utes are shooting over 70 percent from the line this season: Tim Drisdom (94.4), Marc Jackson (89.2), Richard Chaney (83.8) and Andrew Bogut (72.9).

Getting Defensive
One of the trademarks of Utah basketball in recent years has been a stifling half-court defense. Since the 1989-90 season, Utah has finished in the top 30 in the nation 12 times in scoring defense, 10 times in rebound margin, eight times in field goal percentage defense and eight times in scoring margin.

? Utah has not allowed an opponent to score 80 points in 139 consecutive games that have ended in regulation. The last team to score 80 points on the Utes in a 40-minute game was Wyoming (88) on Feb. 28, 2000 in Laramie, Wyo.

? The Utes have outrebounded the opposition in eight of the 11 games this season, and had a push in one other game (vs. Stony Brook in the season opener), going 8-1 in those contests. The Utes have a +8.0 rebound margin per game this season. That continues a trend from last season when the Utes outrebounded 30 of 33 opponents.

? Utah has allowed just three opponents to shoot better than 50 percent from the field this season: Washington (53.4 in a loss), Utah State (65.0 in a loss) and Cal Poly (54.5 in a win).

? In the NCAA statistical rankings released on Dec. 21, Utah ranked 51st in scoring defense (60.9 ppg) and 35th in rebound margin (+7.4 rpg).
