Nine meets down and two to go. I cannot believe how the season has flown by.
We had a great time in Seattle last weekend. We got in on Thursday afternoon and went to Benihana's for a team dinner. Greg made everyone use chopsticks. So we nicknamed him the fork Nazi. Last week, no cell phones at dinner, this week no forks. What's next? Is there no end to that man's cruelty?
On Friday, the team did a wonderful job and everyone contributed to our victory over Washington, Iowa, and Illinois-Chicago. Queenie didn't compete because she is resting her back and Rach only did two events because her shin has been hurting a little. It gave others a chance to step up though, and they certainly did just that. We were so proud of Riffy because she scored a new high on beam and matched her high score on floor! V did a great set on beam and Gritt finally got back on floor. Dom had a nasty fall in bar warm-ups, but was really tough and did a great routine to start off the meet for us. Now she's got a huge ugly bruise on her knee. Those South Africans are BAD. Gabbi did a great beam set and Steph really stepped up on floor and vault. Mel - what can I say; she was her usual incredible self, so clean, so consistent. Rach had a beautiful 9.95 and I had my second 10.0 on vault as we set a new school record of 49.65 on that event to end the meet! Nice job vault coach! I can't tell you how happy I am to be back competing again. The two weeks off were torture.
We want to thank our fans who showed up at UW for us. You were AWESOME! It seemed like there were more Ute fans than Husky fans there. They were definitely cheering the loudest -- by far. Give me a U...
Saturday morning we were up bright and early to go workout at a fitness club. Some worked out on the cardio machines while others got to do cardio in the pool. Tom (world's greatest trainer) made sure everyone got a workout!! I think I drank half the pool along with Dom and Mel, who almost drowned even though it was only 4 feet deep! She got to wear the floaties on her arms though, so that saved her life. Mel also decided it is more fun working out in a bikini! Hmmm..... Then we all finished with some strength training.
Since we stayed right in downtown Seattle, the rest of the day was spent shopping and sightseeing. Megan was proud of all of us when we got back to the hotel -- lots of shopping bags! We had another team dinner and then sat around and shared stories about our experiences that weekend. We talked about everything from funny things that happened at the meet, to rides on the ferry, monorail and Space Needle, visits to the interactive music store and even more shopping stories, including show and tell.
Anyway, it is back to reality again. We had a great practice yesterday and are ready for 10,000 of our fans this weekend!! Can't wait to see you Friday!
GO UTES!!
