SALT LAKE CITY -
Well that was fun! Spring break is officially over but I'm not sure I'm ready to get back into studying just yet! While some people were fortunate enough to travel or go back home for the break, the Red Rocks stayed in Utah preparing for the last home meet of the season against our archrival BYU.
No school for a week meant that practices could start at 10 in the morning - leaving us some free time in the afternoon for things like shopping, working, homework, or just enjoying the beautiful warm weather.
As I mentioned earlier, Friday was the last home-meet of the season, not to mention SENIOR NIGHT! Mel's "clan", along with her dog, flew in from Michigan and V's parents came out for the first time this year. Her dad flew in all the way from Australia! It's sad but true... the "old gals" are moving on. I hope you made it to the meet on Friday because, unless you will be following the Utes at regionals and nationals, that was the last time to witness Mel and V in action - and they definitely ended on a high note! We will miss them a ton! If you were there, you know that the meet was a great success. We broke the school record with a 198.600, and our fans (thanks everyone--you are amazing!) broke the record for the highest attendance at a gymnastics meet this year with 13,325.
Greg thought it would be good for us to stay away from the gym for a couple of days after the meet so he gave us Saturday and Sunday off--although, some girls went to see Tom for treatments in the morning. Gotta keep an eye on those injuries so that our bodies hold out for another month. On Sunday, for the first time in weeks, Tom actually took a day off and went skiing with his wife. Hey, even superheroes deserve a break sometimes!
Practices have been going smoothly. The team is working hard, but we're also having fun, going into what looks to be a great post-season! You would think that after 12 weeks of non-stop competing we would be burned out, but everyone seems really motivated and ready to take on the challenge ahead. Arizona... here we come!
GO UTES!
