SALT LAKE CITY -
After a nice break from classes it was back to the books last week. Monday was an exciting day because we found out that we would be traveling to Arizona for regionals. We were all excited, and hoping for SUNSHINE and warm weather! Break out those bikinis girls.
After a light workout on Monday, we began our postseason training. Greg decided that we are going to train a bit differently than we normally do. First and foremost, we have begun to train every other day so that our bodies have time to recover a little bit more and we can be awesome in every single practice. We have also started to train routines as a team, having only a thirty second touch. This will get us ready for the postseason structure and get us used to having so much time between warm-ups and when we actually compete, not to mention all the byes during the meet.
The atmosphere in the gym this week was great! We had so much fun! We have been having little stick contests amongst ourselves, trying to keep practice interesting. Steph is willing to challenge anybody with a stick contest on bars. Any takers? Aki has also begun to coach not only bars but beam now. He is trying out his hand at some choreography, and with his stopwatch in his hand, he is an animal! Megan ... you better watch out!
This week was extra exciting for me because on Thursday I turned 20! WOW! I am getting old huh? Some of my friends helped me celebrate in style, waking me up in the middle of the night to surprise me with flowers! Oh yeah, I am sure that everybody knows, but Queenie's latest countdown has come to end because her birthday was yesterday! Happy 19th Girl!
Our training fell this week so that we ended up with Friday off. WEIRD! It was so different to not be competing on a Friday night, but don't worry-some of us still kept busy. Natalie, Nicolle and I went to the Delta Center and saw Clay Aiken and Kelly Clarkson. It was absolutely amazing! Even though we didn't have a competition, AB had a friend from home come and visit her, they had an awesome time. It was a great week of training in the gym and ended with a little team bonding on Saturday with all of the girls who live in the dorms.
Well, it's about that time for us to go and kick some butt at regionals! We leave Thursday afternoon and compete on Saturday. We hope to see some of you there! If you can't make it though, Liz will be doing her online play-by-play, so be sure to link in. Also, Arizona will be posting live stats on all the teams at www. arizonaathletics.com (choose the schedule/results page).
RED ROCKS!
