SALT LAKE CITY -
Each week, a Utah gymnast submits an entry for the Utah Gymnastics Journal. This week's edition is provided by senior Gritt Hofmann.
Hi Red Rock Fans,
It's crazy how fast time is flying by ... two meets are behind us, only 10 more regular season meets, and then regionals and nationals. I can't believe that this is already AB's and my last season. We still have some unfinished business though. Therefore, we keep working hard in the gym--especially after last weekend's meet. Even though we won the meet, we were not pleased with our performance at Utah State. Our training this week has been more focused so that we will be better prepared for tomorrow's meet at Oregon State. All of us are very excited to go there because it gives us the chance to see Jacey (Draper) again. We miss her a lot.
Our fans are the best. Some of them chartered a bus and followed us to Utah State. It seemed as though we had as many fans there as they did. I think they were more ready for the meet than we were.
Saturday, Dom threw an early 21st birthday party for herself. Happy birthday girl! Seemed like everyone in the dorms was there. We all had a great time. It was definitely the place to be on Saturday night.
School started again last week and everyone got back into studying. Our team had a great fall semester. The team GPA was a 3.62. Hey Freshies, don't forget to bring your books this weekend. Greg will be watching for them!
I thought you might like to hear what we do on a typical away meet weekend. On Thursday, we go to our classes, then we board a charter bus for the airport. We fly to whereever the meet is and catch another charter bus to our hotel. We always have a team dinner on Thursday evening. It feels like a big family meal. It's fun because we share a lot of stories and usually find out some things we didn't know about our teammates and coaches. On Friday, we'll usually do some site seeing or shopping and then about 2:00 p.m., start preparing for the meet. After the meet we go out to dinner with our parents and fans. The next morning it's back on the bus to the airport and home to our beautiful mountains. Our trips are pretty non-stop, but a great experience. We always feel much closer as a team after road trips. I guess it's because it's just us and we spend so much time together.
Well, that's it for this week. If you can't come to Oregon, catch the live scoring and comments by Liz Abel, our sports information director, on our web site. And we'll see you all next week when we're home again to take on Michigan.
GO UTES!
