PROVO, Utah - Andrew Bogut had 20 points and tied his career high with five blocks to lead Utah to its 13th straight win, 72-58 over rival Brigham Young on Monday night.
Bryant Markson and Tim Drisdom each scored 11 points and Marc Jackson had 10 points and for No. 21 Utah (18-3, 6-0 Mountain West), which shot 61.9 percent from the field - 17-of-24 in the second half.
Utah beat BYU (7-13, 1-4) for the fifth time in the last six meetings.
The state's biggest rivalry nearly turned into a brawl late in the second half when Utah was pulling away.
Bogut went in for a two-handed dunk and hung on to the rim a little longer than the Cougars felt he should have. When he came down, it was on BYU's Chris Miles, who kicked at Bogut while both were on the floor.
Miles was called for a technical immediately and the animosity grew from there. BYU's Mike Hall and Markson exchanged words as each were led away by teammates, although not before both were called for technicals.
Utah's coaching staff ran down the Ute bench to make sure nobody ran onto the court.
The brief break as the officials sorted out the technicals didn't seem to faze Utah, which came back on the next possession with another power dunk by Bogut, who also had nine rebounds, to put the Utes up 67-48.
Austin Ainge led BYU with 15 points, Jimmy Balderson added 13 points and Keena Young scored 10 for BYU, which was outscored 44-18 inside. The Cougars also had 10 turnovers in the second half, when they were outscored 44-29 after taking a one-point lead into halftime.
BYU turned the ball over on its first possession of the second half, leading to Jackson's layup. Drisdom made a steal at midcourt and fed it to Bogut, who made a perfect bounce pass through the lane to Markson for an easy dunk that put Utah up 32-29.
Balderson tied it for the Cougars with a 3-pointer, but Justin Hawkins converted a 3-point play and Markson added a basket during the 16-3 run to open the second half.
Markson added a dunk and a 3-pointer as the Utes scored 12 straight points.
BYU cut it to 46-38 on two free throws by Young with 12:22 remaining, but the Utes took off again. Markson scored off an offensive rebound, Hawkins added a layup and Drisdom picked up the ball after another block by Bogut and drove for a left-handed layup and the lead was up to 14.
The Cougars never got closer than nine the rest of the game.
