SALT LAKE CITY -
The NCAA office has released the rotation schedule for the opening day of the NCAA Gymnastics Championships and Utah has drawn the afternoon session. The Utes will join LSU, Nebraska, Michigan, Penn State and Oklahoma in the 1 p.m. (CDT) qualifying session on Thursday, April 21 in Auburn, Ala. The evening session consists of UCLA, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Iowa State and Brigham Young and starts at 7 p.m.
In yet another blind draw conducted by the NCAA office on Sunday, the Utes received the identical rotation schedule that they had at regionals: bars, beam, bye, floor, vault, bye. It is also the same rotation Utah drew for both the qualifying round and Super Six team finals at the 2004 NCAA Championships.
There are three No. 1 seeds and three No. 2 seeds in each of the qualifying sessions on April 21. The top three teams from each round will advance to the NCAA Super Six Championship on Friday, April 22. Utah had the third highest score of the six regional winners and No. 1 seeds into nationals. Louisiana State scored a 197.125 to win the Northeast Region, UCLA scored a 197.025 to win the West Region and Utah's 196.80 won the North Central region. The other region winners and their scores were: Alabama (196.675, Central), Michigan (196.600, South Central) and Florida (196.575, Southeast).
The regional runners-up in order of score were: Nebraska (196.300, South Central), BYU (195.975, North Central), Iowa State (195.625, Central), Oklahoma (195.50, Northeast), Penn State (195.375, West) and Georgia (195.15, Southeast).
