SALT LAKE CITY -
Four University of Utah gymnastics meets will be televised nationally in 2006 through a partnership between KJZZ-TV and College Sports Television (CSTV). Utah's home meets with Nebraska (Jan. 20), Minnesota (Feb. 17), Georgia (Mar. 3) and Brigham Young (Mar. 24) will be broadcast locally on KJZZ at 5 p.m. the Sunday following each meet and will also air nationally in to-be-announced slots on CSTV.
KJZZ, the University of Utah's local television partner, will produce and air more than 20 Utah sporting events in the 2005-06 athletic seasons. CSTV Networks provides more college sports coverage on more platforms than any other multimedia company. CSTV programming is currently available on cable, broadcast, satellite via DISH and DirecTV, pay-per-view, Sirius satellite radio, broadband and other means of distribution.
"I'm excited about this unique partnership," said Utah gymnastics coach Greg Marsden. "It will provide us an opportunity not only for great local exposure, but also exposure on a national stage. I'm grateful to both KJZZ and CSTV for their cooperative efforts to make this happen. KJZZ has always been a great supporter of Utah athletics and our gymnastics program. CSTV is the leader in college sports broadcasting and we are thrilled to have four home meets on its 2006 programming schedule."
"Since the program began in 1976, the University of Utah gymnastics team has won 10 national championships," said Randy Rigby, senior vice president and general manager of KJZZ TV. "The caliber of competition on Utah's schedule this year is outstanding. We are pleased to bring Utah gymnastics to television. It will provide great sports programming for the Salt Lake City television market, exposure for our sponsors and national exposure for the Utes to a national audience on CSTV."
"CSTV's goal is to provide the most college sports coverage to the most fans in as many ways as possible," said CSTV Networks' president Chris Bevilacqua. "With KJZZ stepping up to partner with us, Utah gymnastics fans get great sports programming. CSTV currently has exclusive rights agreements in place with the Mountain West Conference and Conference USA and, extensive relationships with several other college sports groups."
