SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Brent Wilson and Jason Siggers each scored 22 points to lead Albany to its fifth straight victory by beating Utah 59-58 Thursday night.
The Great Danes (7-4) made 11 3-pointers to send the Utes (5-8) to their fifth loss of the season by three points or less.
Freshman Stephen Weigh scored a career-high 22 points to lead the Utes, but they failed to make any crucial plays in the final minute as they extended their worst start since 1982.
Center Luke Nevill lost the ball amid a double-team with less than 10 seconds left, and the Utes twice failed to get rebounds after Albany missed the first shot of a one-and-one free-throw opportunity in the final 4.4 seconds.
Siggers intercepted a desperation pass with 0.9 seconds left to seal the victory. His 22 points were a career-high, barely a week after suffering a sprained ankle.
Nevill added 17 points for the Utes, and threw in a desperation turnaround jumper to beat the shot clock with 1:25 left that gave the Utes a 58-57 lead. But his miss triggered a fast break that allowed Albanys Jamar Wilson to score an easy lay-up that gave the Great Danes the lead for good with 34 seconds left.
Wilson left the game with 44.9 seconds remaining in the first half after falling hard while committing a foul on Utahs Daniel Deane.
Wilson hit his head on the floor, and lay under the basket for several minutes before slowly sitting up and eventually jogging to the locker room.
Wilson returned to start the second half, and finished with eight points.
