SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah women's tennis team finished their tournament schedule on Sunday at the Utah Invitational. The Utes had a winner in every main-draw bracket: doubles, Flight A and Flight B singles. Elizabeth Ferris was the Flight A champion, Cinthia Saucedo was the Flight B champion, and duo Emily Kwok and Cheyenne Reveche won the doubles tournament.
Ferris, the No. 1 seed, faced Kwok, the No. 2 seed, in the Finals of the Flight A bracket on Sunday. Ferris swept the first set 6-0. Trying to take second set, Kwok pushed herself to challenge Ferris. The two went point for point, but Ferris stepped up to take the second set 7-5.
In the Flight B bracket, Carter and Saucedo went head to head for the finals. Carter, a freshman, was not a seeded competitor in the competition, but faced Saucedo, a senior, and the No. 4 seed of the Flight B bracket. They played through two sets ending in a 6-2, 6-3 victory for Saucedo.
Finishing the wins for the Utes on Sunday was duo Kwok and Reveche in the doubles competition. Facing the No. 2 seeded Monson and Monson from Utah State for the finals, the No. 4 seeded Utes were determined to shut out the tournament for Utah. They did just that; the Utes took the match 8-3.
