QUICK STICKS Utah is 2-0 at home this season with wins over UCLA and Washington ... Utah has averaged 10,151 fans to its first two home meets ... While both Utah and Arkansas qualified for the 2006 NCAA Championships, they did not meet head-to-head, as Arkansas failed to advance out of its opening session. Utah finished second and Arkansas 12th.
LINEUP LOOK
This week's lineup could feature some new twists, thanks to the emergence of three freshmen. Daria Bijak made a successful debut in the bar lineup against Minnesota, and Sarah Shire will likely move into a starting role on vault and beam after a good showing on both events last week. Shire scored a 9.875 in exhibition on vault and a 9.80 to count on the beam. Beth Rizzo has earned a spot on floor after scoring well in two of three exhibition attempts. A freshman who has contributed all season is Annie DiLuzio (on vault, beam and floor).
UTE NOTES
A Ute has won or tied for every event and all-around title in the first three meets of the season. Three different Utes have won all-around titles: Kristina Baskett (39.60) vs. UCLA, Nicolle Ford (39.50) vs. Washington and Ashley Postell (39.55) vs. Minnesota ... Postell is Utah's win leader (8), followed by Baskett (6) and Ford (4) ... Utah's freshman class has hit 11-11 routines this year. Three-event performer Annie DiLuzio leads the rookies with a 9-9 slate. Daria Bijak and Sarah Shire are both 1-1 in counting routines ... Katie Kivisto has developed a bone chip in the elbow she had surgically repaired last year after she dislocated it and cannot train on bars. Kivisto has been replaced in the bar lineup by Bijak, but she remains in the floor lineup, where she set a career high last meet (9.825).
UTES IN THE RANKINGS
Ashley Postell and Kristina Baskett are found in this week's national top 10 rankings, which are based on season average. Postell is tied for third in the all-around (39.55) and second on floor (9.90), while Baskett ranks No. 6 on vault (9.90). As a team, the Utes are ranked No. 4 on vault (49.217), bars (49.175) and floor (49.117). Utah is No. 7 on beam (48.80).
