COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Utah junior midfielder Katy Reineke and senior defender Kiley Jones have been named Mountain West Conference Women's Soccer Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively.
Reineke, a native of Salt Lake City, Utah, assisted on Utah's first goal and scored the team's second goal against UNLV, to put the Utes ahead, 2-1. It ended up being the tying goal as both teams finished with two goals apiece. Reineke also assisted on Utah's only goal of the game against nationally-ranked BYU. The 1-0 win vs. the Cougars was BYU's first loss of the season. Reineke now has nine goals and five assists on the year, ranking second on the team in both categories.
Jones, a San Clemente, Calif., native, led Utah to a 1-0 shutout victory at No. 14/16 BYU. It marked the Cougars' first loss of the season and only the third time that they failed to score a goal. Jones held BYU's leading scorer, Katie Larkin, to just one shot on goal. At UNLV, the defender helped preserve a tie as she helped keep the Rebels scoreless in both overtime periods.
Utah is back home this week for Mountain West Conference matches with Air Force and New Mexico. The Utes will host the Falcons at 7:30 p.m. Thursday night, before welcoming the Lobos to Ute Field at 1 p.m. Sunday.
