The University of Utah women's soccer team puts an 11-match unbeaten streak on the line with a pair of home Mountain West Conference matches this week.
The Utes will host Air Force at 7:30 p.m. Thursday night at Ute Field. Following the Falcons' visit, New Mexico will come calling. The Utes' contest with the Lobos is set for 1 p.m. Sunday.
Utah is back in the national rankings for the first time since the preseason. The Utes are No. 27 in the Soccer Buzz poll.
Utah has never lost to Air Force, holding a 9-0-0 advantage in the all-time series with the Falcons. The Utes are 9-4-1 all-time against New Mexico. However, Utah has never lost to the Lobos in Salt Lake City (6-0-0).
Opening Kick
Utah is the top-ranked scoring team in the Mountain West Conference. The Utes are averaging 2.36 goals per game, while the next closest competitor -- TCU -- is averaging 1.64.
Meanwhile, the Ute defense has risen from the bottom of the league in the early going to the middle of the pack. Utah is now No. 5 in goals allowed (1.29 pg).
Lethal Letro
Junior Adele Letro (Davis, Calif.) had a streak of six straight games with at least one goal snapped at BYU Saturday. She scored against UNLV last week, giving her 14 goals in 13 games. She ranks No. 1 in the MWC and No. 3 in the nation in goals per game (1.077).
Letro also has three assists, giving her 31 total points for an average of 2.38 points per game, which ranks No. 1 in the MWC and No. 5 in the nation.
Letro has scored in nearly one-half (26-of 55) of her collegiate games. She now has seven career multi-goal games and 17 career game-winning goals.
Isleib = Assist
Utah sophomore Kelly Isleib (Park City, Utah) is the national leader in assists per game. The Ute midfielder is averaging almost one assist per game (0.92).
Isleib has recorded assists in eight of the 12 games she's played in this season. She has three multiple assist games this season.
Isleib's total of 11 assists give her 11 points, which is tied for third on the team. Without a goal this season, she still ranks 10th in the MWC in points per game.
Special K-Squared
Senior Kiley Jones (San Clemente, Calif.) and junior Katy Reineke (Salt Lake City) swept the Mountain West Conference Player of the Week awards this past week
Jones played a big part in Utah's 1-0 shutout victory over BYU on Saturday. She marked Katie Larkin -- the Cougars' leading scorer -- for much of the match and held her to just one shot.
Meanwhile, Reineke had a hand (or foot) in each of Utah's three goals last week. She scored the second goal of the game in a 2-2 tie against UNLV and assisted on the first tally against the Rebels. Reineke also notched an assist on Utah's lone goal in the 1-0 win over BYU.
