THE MEET
No. 5 Utah (8-1) faces No. 7 Nebraska (13-3) on Sunday, Mar. 4 in Lincoln, Neb. Start time is 2 p.m. CT (1 p.m. MT) in the Bob Devaney Sports Center. Utah is coming off a win against Michigan, while the Huskers are fresh off an upset win over No. 3 Stanford. Utah and Nebraska last met at the 2006 NCAA Championships, where Utah placed second and Nebraska fifth.
QUICK STICKS
Utah faces a grueling competitive schedule, with just four days separating meets against No. 7 Nebraska (Sunday, Mar. 4 in Lincoln) and No. 1 Florida (Friday, Mar. 9 in the Huntsman Center) ... Utah and Nebraska have met two common opponents this season: Arkansas and Michigan. Both teams beat Arkansas (Nebraska 195.20-192.80 and Utah 196.150-193.625). Nebraska lost on the road to Michigan (195.825-195.350), while Utah beat the Wolverines at home (196.225-193.800) ... Utah is 2-1 on the road this season.
UTE NOTES
All-America all-arounder Nicolle Ford is out indefinitely with an ankle injury, while freshman Annie DiLuzio is questionable for Sunday's meet due to a strained Achilles. Ford injured her ankle on her first floor pass in last Friday's meet and DiLuzio did not compete ... Freshman Jamie Deetscreek could see action on as many as three events (vault, bars and beam) if DiLuzio can't go against Nebraska ... Utah's three all-arounders are neck-and-neck in individual victories, with Kristina Baskett (13 wins) holding a slim lead over Ashley Postell (12) and Nicolle Ford (11) ... Baskett has won at least one individual title in every meet to date ... Baskett has the best all-around mark by a Ute this year (39.70), followed by Ford (39.625) and Postell (39.55).
SUPER SIX
At the season's midpoint, Utah's six freshmen have begun to make an impact. With Stephanie Neff's appearance in the floor lineup last week against Michigan (she scored a 9.775), all six freshmen have now competed to count. Sarah Shire is emerging into a title threat on vault (9.875 best) and beam (9.90). Annie DiLuzio is also a two-event contributor when healthy - competing in the middle of the vault and floor lineups. Beth Rizzo has become a solid scorer at lead-off on floor (9.875 best). Freshman Jamie Deetscreek has one counting bar (9.775) and beam (9.75) routine so far and could compete on those events and vault this Sunday.
UTE RANKINGS
Kristina Baskett is the only Ute to make the top 10 this week, checking in at No. 5 on the vault with a 9.90 RQS. Utah's best apparatus ranking is No. 4 on the vault (49.265 RQS). The Utes are No. 6 on both bars (49.175) and beam (48.830), and 13th on the floor (48.905).
LAST WEEK
Utah beat Michigan 196.225-193.800 before a crowd of 9,313 in the Huntsman Center, but the mood turned somber after senior All-American Nicolle Ford injured her ankle on her first floor pass. Ford had been leading the all-around standings prior to the injury, helping Utah cruise to its biggest three-event score of the season (147.850). However, the Utes' misfortunes on floor did not end with Ford, which prevented them from cracking 197.00 for the first time of the season. Ashley Postell won the all-around (39.50), vault and floor, while Baskett tied for first on vault and won bars, and Ford took beam honors.
