THE MEET
The No. 7 Utah gymnastics team (8-3) competes at the four-team Oregon State Salbasgeon Suites Invitational on Friday, Mar. 16 in Corvallis, Ore. The meet starts at 7 p.m. Pacific Time (8 p.m. Mountain Time). Teams in the meet include No. 10 Oregon State (11-4), Washington (3-7) and Seattle-Pacific (1-12). The last time Utah competed in OSU's Gill Coliseum was at the 2006 NCAA Championships last April, where the Utes placed second ... Utah is still looking for its first road win of the season against a top-10 opponent. The Utes are 2-2 on the road ... Utah has already faced Washington this season - beating the Huskies 196.725-193.850 on Jan. 19 in Salt Lake City ... Utah and Oregon State are 4-1 against five common opponents this year. Seven-time All-American Nicolle Ford remains questionable on vault and floor this week while recovering from an ankle injury that sidelined her against Nebraska and limited her to two events last Friday against Florida. Ford has scored a 9.90 or better on every event (including a team-best 9.95 on floor) this year and has a season-best all-around mark of 39.625 ... Freshman two-event starter Annie DiLuzio returned from a two-week injury layoff (Achilles) last Friday, competing on vault and floor vs. the Gators ... Three Utes have combined for all of the team's individual titles this year: Postell (16), Baskett (15) and Ford (12) ... Baskett has won at least one individual title in every meet to date ... Baskett has the best all-around mark by a Ute this year (39.70), followed by Ford (39.625) and Postell (39.55).SUPER SIX
Utah's six freshmen are becoming increasingly productive as the season progresses and are now contributing at least a third of Utah's starting routines. Against Nebraska, freshmen accounted for close to half of Utah's routines, going 11-of-11. Full-time freshman starters include Daria Bijak on bars, beam and floor, Annie DiLuzio on vault and floor, Sarah Shire on vault and beam, and Stephanie Neff on floor. Beth Rizzo has competed on floor five times and Jamie Deetscreek has competed four routines total (two beam, one vault, one bars). The best scores by freshmen this year are 9.90s by both Bijak and Shire on the beam.UTE RANKINGS
Kristina Baskett is ranked No. 5 in the nation on vault (9.910 RQS) and No. 7 on bars (tie, 9.895) this week. The Utes' best event rankings are on bars (No. 4) and vault (No. 5), where they have an identical 49.265 RQS. Utah checks in at No. 9 on beam this week (48.95) and No. 11 on floor (49.050).LAST WEEK
Utah had upset on its mind against Florida last week - taking the lead after three events. But the Utes couldn't stay inbounds on floor and fell to the No. 1 Gators, 197.050-196.725. Ashley Postell won the all-around (39.525) and three events (vault, bars and beam). Tying Postell for individual titles were Kristina Baskett (vault) and Nicolle Ford (bars). Helping Utah to its best beam outing of the year were Daria Bijak (9.90) and Postell (9.95).
