THE MEET
The No. 6 ranked Utah gymnastics team (12-3) finishes regular season play at No. 24 Brigham Young (13-7) on Friday, Mar. 30. The meet will start at 7 p.m. MT in the Marriott Center in Provo, Utah. It will be televised live on BYUTV. Live stats and commentary will be provided at UtahUtes.com.
POSTSEASON PLANS
Utah will learn its NCAA Regional destination on Monday, April 2. The NCAA Regionals are slated for Saturday, April 14. The top 18 teams nationally, based on regional qualifying score (RQS), will be seeded and paired into the six regions (three per region). The remaining three slots will be filled with non-seeded teams from within the region. There are six regions and the top two teams from each, regardless of score, will advance to the NCAA Championships, April 26-28 in Salt Lake City. The six regional sites are: Tuscaloosa, Ala. (Central), Denver, Colo. (North Central), Ann Arbor, Mich. (Northeast), Tucson, Ariz. (South Central), Morgantown, W. Va. (Southeast) and Berkeley, Calif. (West).
QUICK STICKS
Utah won its 23rd women's gymnastics attendance crown in the last 26 years by drawing a crowd of 11,923 to last Friday's meet. Utah finished the season with an average home attendance of 11,297 to beat Alabama (11,284). It is the fifth-highest attendance average in Utah--and NCAA--gymnastics history ... Utah is looking for win No. 80 against BYU. The Utes lead the all-time series 79-2, including a win in Salt Lake City on Feb. 2 ... Utah is 3-2 on the road.
UTE NOTES
Three Utes have combined for all of the team's individual titles this year: Baskett (19), Postell (18) and Ford (16) ... Baskett has won at least one individual title in every meet to date ... Baskett has the best all-around mark by a Ute this year (39.70), followed by Ford (39.625) and Postell (39.55, twice) ... Baskett has the best apparatus score by a Ute this year - a 9.975 on vault vs. Arizona State ... Utah has produced season high scores on vault in the last two meets, scoring a 49.425 at Oregon State on Mar. 16 and a 49.50 vs. Arizona State on Mar. 23.
SUPER SIX
Utah's six freshmen are contributing more than a third of Utah's starting routines. Against Nebraska, freshmen accounted for close to half of Utah's routines, going 11-of-11. Full-time freshman starters include Daria Bijak on bars, beam and floor, Annie DiLuzio on vault and floor, Sarah Shire on vault and beam, and Stephanie Neff on floor. Beth Rizzo has competed on floor six times and Jamie Deetscreek has competed four routines total. The best scores by freshmen this year are 9.90s by Bijak (beam), Shire (vault and beam) and DiLuzio (vault and floor).
UTE RANKINGS
Ashley Postell continues her climb up the national all-around rankings, checking in this week at No. 9 with a 39.405 regional qualifying score. Kristina Baskett and Nicolle Ford are ranked 3-4 on the uneven bars, with Baskett submitting a 9.925 RQS and Ford a 9.915. Baskett is tied for fourth on vault (9.930). Utah's best team rankings are on bars (No. 3, 49.310 RQS) and vault (No. 5, 49.335 RQS). The Utes are No. 10 on beam (49.040) and No. 13 on floor (49.110).
