THIS WEEK
The No. 3-ranked Utah gymnasts (1-1) will host No. 25 Washington (3-1) in the Power of Pink meet on Friday, Jan. 23. The meet begins at 7 p.m. in the Huntsman Center. To raise awareness for breast cancer, anyone wearing pink will receive free general admission seating. The Utah-Washington meet will be televised tape delayed on CW30, Sunday, Jan. 25 at 11:00 a.m., and on The Mtn., Jan. 29 at 10 p.m.
QUICK STICKS
The Ute gymnasts will sign autographs after the meet Friday ... Pink Utah hankies will be placed in the lower bowl seats ... Friday's meet is one of three "pink" meets for the Utes this season and its second in a row (along with last week's meet at Georgia). Utah's meet at Nebraska on Feb. 13 has also been designated as a Power of Pink meet ... Utah's No. 3 national ranking is from Jan. 18 and does not include its 196.725 score against Georgia a day later.
UTE NOTES
Annie DiLuzio has won floor in both meets to date. DiLuzio scored a 9.875 against UCLA and a 9.90 against Georgia. Tying DiLuzio for first on floor at Georgia was Nina Kim ... DiLuzio and Kim lead Utah with two wins apiece. Jamie Deetscreek and Kristina Baskett both have one victory ... Going all-around in both meets were Baskett (39.45 high), Kim (39.375) and Deetscreek (39.275) ... Just seven Utes competed at Georgia, with Daria Bijak, DiLuzio,
Gael Mackie and
Stephanie McAllister all doing three events. Only nine Utes made the trip to Georgia, as injured Beth Rizzo (ankle) and
Kyndal Robarts (shoulder) remained in Salt Lake City ... Mackie's miss on beam vs. Georgia was the first fall of her Ute career... Utah did not count a fall at Georgia ... Utes without a fall are Deetscreek (8-8) and Bijak (6-6) ... Sophomore
Jacquelyn Johnson could see her first action of the year this Friday as exhibition on bars ... In the Jan. 19 national rankings, Kim was the top-ranked vaulter for her 9.95 score against UCLA in the season opener. Baskett was No. 2 on vault with a 9.925 and Deetscreek and DiLuzio were tied for 11th with a 9.875. On bars, Baskett (9.925) stood second and Mackie (9.90) ranked fourth. Kim had a 9.875 to tie for sixth on beam and DiLuzio was sixth on floor (9.875).
LAST WEEK
Tied at 147.775 after three events, the Utes went on to lose to four-time defending NCAA champion Georgia on Jan. 19 in Athens, 197.150-196.725. Utah did not count a fall in the meet. Kristina Baskett placed second in the all-around with a season-best 39.45. Annie DiLuzio and Nina Kim tied for first on floor (9.90).
SERIES SHORTS
Utah leads the series with Washington 37-0-1 ... The Utes have won 10 straight since a tie in Seattle in 2001. In that meet, Washington received a 10.0 on its final floor routine to grab a share of first ... The Utes lead 15-0 in Salt Lake City.
