BIG SKY, Mont. - Eva Huckova earned her second victory of the season with a win in the slalom to close out the Montana State Invitational on Sunday afternoon. For the men, Torjus Krogdahl had his second podium finish of the year in the slalom with a second-place finish.
Huckova finished first with a time of 1:39.76. Sofia Smith was Utah's other racer in the slalom, coming in 22nd in 1:44.29.
"Eva has earned enough points this year that she doesn't have to worry about qualifying for NCAA's anymore," Director of Skiing Eli Brown said. "She can just relax and ski. For her to prove she is an NCAA podium contender again is exciting. Now that the pressure is off she can work on what she needs to do."
Krogdahl, who also finished second in the slalom at the Utah Invitational, had a time of 1:31.95. Nick Cohee and Thomas Zumbrunn both finished in the top 15, with Cohee placing 12th (1:34.37) and Zumbrunn coming in 15th (1:34.71).
Utah finished fourth at the MSU Invitational with 712 points. Colorado won the meet with 901 points, followed by New Mexico (834) and Denver (820).

"The Nordic and alpine teams have had some tough periods but have also had bright moments that have really shown our depth," Brown said. "When some skiers are down, others rise to the occasion and ski well. I am really glad there is a period coming up where our alpine team doesn't have to travel. They can train and improve and I know when we are at full strength we are going to be dangerous. Skiers have taken big steps up across the squad - Miles Havlick is a freshman who had surgery just two months ago, Max Lamb had maybe his best giant slalom ever yesterday, Torjus has two podiums this year, Rolf Figi and Sofia Smith have also improved a lot. The competition level is high all the way across the board and we've shown in the first two weeks we are extremely talented, we just need some time to piece it all together. I am feeling good about the team, I am glad we can have some time at home to regroup and I am looking forward to showcasing a healthy Nordic squad at Soldier Hollow. We're looking forward to everyone coming out to support us!"
The Utes complete the Utah Invitational with their next race, Feb. 22-23. Events will be held at Soldier Hollow in Midway, Utah. Utah is third with 378 points after the alpine races, which were held Jan. 11-12.
