THIS WEEK IN UTAH GYMNASTICS
No. 6 Utah (1-1) hosts No. 10 Georgia (1-1) on Friday, Jan. 22 at 7 p.m. in the Huntsman Center. Tickets to the Comcast Challenge are available at UtahUtes.com, by calling 801-581-UTIX and at the Huntsman Center box office. Free live scores and video streaming will be available on UtahUtes.com. The meet will be televised tape delayed on ABC-4, Sunday, Jan. 24 at 11 a.m. (MT) and on the Mtn. on Jan. 28 at 8 p.m. (MT).
GYM GIANTS
Utah and Georgia have combined to win 20 of the last 34 national gymnastics championships (10 each) and 19 of the 28 NCAA Championships. Utah's 10 national championships include nine NCAA titles and the 1981 AIAW Championship. Georgia has captured the last five NCAA Championships and 10 total NCAA crowns. During Georgia's current five-year championship reign, the Utes have placed second three times (2006, 2007, 2008) and third twice (2005, 2009).
QUICK STICKS
After beating a tough Iowa State team 196.300-195.350 last Friday in Salt Lake City, Utah climbed five places in the rankings to No. 6 ... Utah drew 12,605 fans to its meet last week in the Huntsman Center ...
Megan Marsden, in her first year as co-head coach, earned her first career victory against Iowa State. Marsden is an Iowa native ... Annie DiLuzio is tied for first in the nation on the floor exercise with a 9.912 average. She is one of two gymnasts to score a 9.95 this year ... Other Utes ranked in the nation's top-10 this week are
Kyndal Robarts, who is tied for eighth on the beam with a 9.85 average, and tied for 10th in the all-around (39.15) and on vault (9.887); Daria Bijak, tied for ninth on floor (9.875); and Jamie Deetscreek, tied for 10th on bars (9.862) ... Utah's best apparatus ranking comes on the floor, where the Utes are second with a 49.087 average ... A Ute won every event and the all-around last week. Deetscreek led the way with three victories: all-around (39.425), bars (9.875) and beam (9.90).
Kyndal Robarts scored a career-high 9.925 to win vault and DiLuzio's 9.95 won floor ... Robarts should return to the beam lineup this week after sitting out on that event against Iowa State due to a groin injury. Robarts, who led Utah with a 39.15 all-around score in the season opener, competed on vault, bars and floor last week vs. Iowa State ... Daria Bijak placed second in the all-around against Iowa State with a 39.400 ... Four Utes are without a fall through two meets: Robarts (7-7), DiLuzio (6-6),
Cortni Beers (4-4), and Beth Rizzo (2-2).

LAST WEEK
Utah needed a big finish to fend off No. 21-ranked Iowa State, 196.300-195.350, before a crowd of 12,605 in the Huntsman Center. Trailing with just three routines remaining, the Utes turned it on and slipped past the surprising Cyclones. Jamie Deetscreek won the all-around, bars and beam,
Kyndal Robarts won vault and Annie DiLuzio took floor. The Utes battled back from a fall early in the lineup on both beam and floor. The final four beam competitors after a fall on that event averaged a 9.83, while the last five floor workers rallied for a 9.835 average.
SERIES SHORTS
Georgia leads the series 24-20-1 and has won 12 of the last 13 meetings. In Salt Lake City, Utah has a 6-4 advantage. The teams have met just 10 times in the regular season--splitting the victories with five apiece. Utah's last win over the Gym Dogs was on Jan. 11, 2008.
