Utah Head Coach Jim Boylen:
"Air Force is a very difficult team to play against because of their style of play, they have had guys in and out of the line up, obviously they've had injuries, newness, and youngness, similar to us. I wasn't sure if Parker was going to play or not but he did, which was a concern, but I thought we took care of business at home."
"I did not like our start to the game, we had eight turnovers... I did not like our start to the game. We had a lay-up to start the game and missed it. That first 5-7 minutes was kind of tough for me, but I thought we snapped out of it. I thought our defense was very solid, I thought as much today as any day this year we shared the ball and we were looking to create for our teammates, we were looking to make somebody else better, we were looking to raise somebody else up and to me that's what the game is. I thought offensively we shared it, we had 15 assists, but I thought we really tried. We shot 30 free-throws which is what we hoped to get, obviously a lot of those free throws were from assists too. So I'm proud of my group, gotta keep getting better, gotta go on the road and get tougher, stronger."
"I thought our physicality showed, I thought our shot blocking obviously showed, our size at times was intimidating I thought, looking at it from our bench down at their end. I thought we were big and long."
On Marshall Henderson's performance:
"He's starting to [play his best basketball for us]. You know what I look at is, I expect him to make shots, I expect him to score the ball, and what I want him to do is become a complete player. I want him to be able to handle the ball and make decisions. I want him to be able to guard and I want him to be able to communicate. To not just be a scorer, but when he makes shots, when he does what he is really good at, we're good. I kinda look at the other things: is he guarding, is he handling it, is he making good decisions and he's growing in all those things. He wants to become a complete player and I'm proud of his performance today and he's a good freshman. He's a good freshman in this league, he's a good freshman if you look at the whole country, he's a good freshman.
On Kim Tillie's contributions:
"We just had a rotation but I thought he gave us a lot when he was in there. I thought he was physical, he offensive rebounded... he made a 15-17 footer from the baseline which he can make and I thought he played his minutes well."
"I'm concerned about the injury, I'm concerned about his fatigue, I'm concerned about his conditioning, but he gave us good minutes."
On Utah's three-point defense:
"Our goal is to lead the league in that, our goal is to be the best team in the country at defending the three point line. Last year we won the league, we won the conference tournament, we gave up five or less a game of made threes. That lead the league by over two, so that's a big part of winning in this league is to defend the three point line. We have to continue to work on that."
On Utah's senior leadership
"I wanted to say one thing about our seniors. I've had great leadership this week on this team because my team took that SDSU loss hard. We took it hard because it was our first home loss in league in a while. I just want to credit my captains: Tillie, Drca, Brown, Tre Smith, and also David Foster. I thought we had great leadership. This week we bounced back, we prepared well, we practiced well, we went double sessions on Thursday. We practiced at 6:30 a.m. and then again at 2 p.m. That's an area where we have to continue to grow is in the leadership of this team, it has to keep growing."
Senior guard Luka Drca
On the differences in today's game and the SDSU game:
"I think the biggest difference was that we shared the ball on offense, and that we made our shots. Our defense was pretty solid, we stuck to our game plan and it was good. We watched the film and we saw our mistakes on the defense and on the offense and we tried to fix them with the double sessions. One game doesn't mean anything, but we have a road trip that is a really tough one. Wyoming and Provo are hard places to play."
On the development of Marshall Henderson:
"Marshall is a great offensive player and a great offensive weapon for us. His defense has improved a ton from what I can tell."
Freshman guard Marshall Henderson
On Coach Boylen trying to develop him into a complete player:
"He has said `You know you shoot the ball well and you're smart, those are the things you do well and then everything else we are just going to make better.'
[In a joking tone] "I was the worst defender in the world when I came here...now I'm the second worst. Shot selection was a huge thing, I still take bad shots, but not as much. Sometimes I might just do something that is crazy that nobody in the whole gym can explain and so they just say `Don't do that, just make sure you don't do this or do that.' And I'm like `Ok, Ok', and I'll remember it until the next dead ball."
Air Force Head Coach Jeff Reynolds
"I thought we played pretty well for about 20 minutes tonight. Their size really bothered us and I thought that we had a lot of open shots that didn't go down. We tried to take it to the rim and their size advantage was really bothersome to us in the second half."
"They also distorted a lot of our shots and I thought early in the game that the transition [attempts] they got, even if they didn't score off of them, were all open looks. We turned the basketball over way too much tonight."
