Utah wrapped up its record 29th-consecutive NCAA Championship appearance with four event finalists competing for individual titles. Although the Utes didn't medal, Daria Bijak, Annie DiLuzio, Kyndal Robarts and Jamie Deetscreek all turned in solid performances.
Robarts had the best result, placing fifth on the beam (9.8625). Deetscreek tied for seventh on beam (9.8375) and DiLuzio tied for seventh on floor (9.875). Bijak placed 11th on bars (9.90).
Bijak was Utah's first competitor of the night and a hastily revised routine went for a 9.80, which earned her 11th place. Bijak explained that her hand "slipped" on her shoot-over and she caught the low bar with her grip on the heel of her hand. The senior recovered quickly and cleanly by circling under the bar and resuming her routine. However, the new version wasn't quite up to her previous postseason standards, which included a series of 9.90s during the regional and both nights of NCAA Championships' team competition.
After a lengthy delay while 20 vaulters completed two vaults apiece, the remaining three Ute qualifiers took the stage in rapid succession, starting with Annie DiLuzio on floor. The senior put on a good show on her final routine, scoring a 9.875 to tie for seventh.
Immediately after DiLuzio struck her final pose, Robarts walked flawlessly through her beam routine. The junior, who scored a 9.90 on both nights of NCAA team competition, received a 9.8625 for her gem, which placed her fifth. One floor competitor later and Deetscreek hopped on the beam, scoring a 9.8375 to tie for seventh.
Bijak finishes her Ute career as an eight-time All-American, which includes first-team honors in the all-around (tied for seventh) and bars (11th) this year. Deetscreek "retires" as a four-time All-American, with three of those coming this weekend (first-team beam, second-team all-around and bars). DiLuzio ends her career as a two-time first-team All-American. Robarts, a two-time first-team All-American, has one year remaining.
