THIS WEEK IN UTAH GYMNASTICS
The No. 3-ranked Utah gymnasts (1-0) face their first road test of the season at No. 6 Georgia (3-0) on Saturday, Jan. 15 in Athens, Ga. The meet starts at 4 p.m. ET (2 p.m. MT) in Stegeman Coliseum. Free live scores and commentary can be found on UtahUtes.com, while live video streaming is available on Georgiadogs.com. The meet will be televised delayed in the Southeast on CSS.
GYM GIANTS
Utah and Georgia have combined to win 20 of the last 35 national gymnastics championships (10 each), including 19 of 29 NCAA Championships. Utah's 10 national championships include nine NCAA titles and the 1981 AIAW Championship. Georgia's 10 total NCAA Championships include five straight from 2005-2009. Utah finished second during three of those UGA championship years (2006, 2007 and 2008) and was third the other two times (2005, 2009). Utah is the only program to qualify for the last 35 national championships, while Georgia's 26 appearances at the national championships ranks fifth.

Utah has six freshmen on its 12-member roster ... The Utes opened the season last week with an upset win over No. 1-ranked and defending NCAA champion UCLA, 195.700-195.300, in Salt Lake City ... Utah opened its 2011 campaign with a bang, beating No. 1-ranked and defending NCAA champion UCLA, 195.700-195.300 before a crowd of 12,455 in the Huntsman Center on Jan. 7. Junior
Stephanie McAllister won the all-around and tied for first on floor, while senior
Kyndal Robarts won vault. The Utes hit 23-of-24 routines in a meet that came down to the balance beam. After Utah's first gymnast fell, the remaining five competitors were rock steady, led by a 9.85 from Robarts as the anchor. UCLA didn't fare as well. After taking its first lead of the night three competitors into its final event, two of the last three Bruin competitors fell off the beam.
SERIES SHORTS
Georgia leads the series 24-21-1, including a 10-2 record advantage in Athens, where the Utes have not won since capturing the 1995 NCAA Championship ... Utah has not won a regular season meet in Georgia since 1991, which is a bit misleading since the teams did not schedule each other in the regular season from 1992-2004 ... Utah's most recent wins against the Gym Dogs were in 2008 and 2010.
