Utah Head Coach Larry Krystkowiak
"Losing is not fun, and it is not acceptable for us. It puts you in a position, in a game like today, where you have to realize the importance of every possession from the opening tip, on. It is important for us. We have so many guys that until this year haven't played a Division I game before. For us to come into that environment and spot that team a 9-0 lead, and really kind of have a lapse in what it is all about and the importance of fighting each possession...because everybody wants to remember how the game ended, but we have to be ready from the opening tip. We had a couple of little breakdowns and that cost us. For me, losing is not fun, and it is no more frustrating in a close game than it is in a blowout. But we are going to continue to fight and our guys' heads are up. Everybody is proud to be doing what we are doing. We are wearing Utah gear and we are sticking together. As coaches and as a team we are going to figure out a way to not make some of these same mistakes."
On looking ahead to the Pac-12
"We are trying to get through today right now. I'm not worried about what is ahead. We are trying to figure out now, how to beat Harvard. And it starts with figuring out why we lost to Montana State. We aren't looking at the big picture, what comes up ahead, and putting any pressure on ourselves because `the schedule gets harder and we may not have enough wins'. That is all out of our control. Every game is important, whether we are playing Harvard, Montana State, Adams State or whoever it is, and beyond that I don't have any vision to look into the future and figure out what is going on."
On Chris Hines' spurt off the bench
"That was very helpful. He is a weapon. Chris just has to remember that we really like to have his feet set on the three-point line. He's as good of a shooter we have. He gets himself into trouble we he starts flying into the lane. That's not what we are looking for him to do. If he sticks to doing what he is capable of doing, he can really help us."
Senior guard Josh Watkins
On the start of the game
"We came out too lackadaisical. That is just the bottom line, we came out too lackadaisical. In the first five minutes we were supposed to bring it to them and make a statement, but we just came out like that."
On taking care of the ball
"Seven turnovers is just not acceptable for me or the coaching staff or my team, it is just not acceptable at all. So [Coach Krystowiak] is right, I need to take better care of the ball."
More satisfying to lose close than in a blowout?
"I don't think we are satisfied with a loss. We have to play our game for 40 minutes, then we will be satisfied. We didn't play our game for 40 minutes, we came out sluggish and they brought it to us. I don't think it is a sense of relief that we stayed with these teams, because we know we could beat these teams. We should and we didn't. But the positive thing is our guys came in and gave us a spark. We all have to bring it every day and every game. Thanks to Hines and Cedric, they came off the bench and gave us a spark and we were able to stay in the game."
Junior wing Cedric Matin
On what changed his game
"Confidence. The last two games I really lost my confidence. But tonight we got to the basket a lot thanks to [Watkins] and [Hines]. Then they kicked it out and kept telling me to shoot the ball, and it started going in."
Montana State Head Coach Brad Huse
"You have to make some plays late to win and our execution was pretty good the last two or three minutes. One of the things that we have to do to be successful is share the basketball and the last play where Moon hit the three-pointer was off of a really nice pass. That was important."
What things about your team did you learn tonight?
"We have a deep bench. Our post players really did a nice job. For those guys to play well we have to get them the basketball, and in the first half they had 10 of our 15 buckets. Guys stepped up and made big shots for us on the interior when we needed them. We are really pleased with how those guys played."
