STOWE, Vt. - Four more student-athletes earned All-American honors in the slalom and the University of Utah ski team finished in second place Saturday on the final day of the NCAA Championships at the Stowe Mountain Resort.
Utah combined for a total of 750.5 points to earn second place at the national meet, finishing behind national champion Colorado (831.0 points). On the final day of the competition, the Utes posted a meet-high 107 points in the women's slalom while the men's team was fourth in the slalom with 81 points.
"I am pleased with today's performance on the alpine hill and extremely satisfied with the overall second-place NCAA finish," Utah Director of Skiing Kevin Sweeney said. "We demonstrated some great team skiing and put down the results when and where we needed to give the title run a shot. Consistency in every discipline has been our trademark this year and it proved to serve us well here at the championships. It was a super team effort all around."
All three of Utah's competitors --- Tii-Maria Romar, Eva Huckova and Anna Kocken --- earned All-American honors in the women's slalom race while Torjus Krogdahl earned All-American status for the Utes in the men's slalom race. The Utes received 14 All-American honors over the three-day meet.
In her first meet at the NCAA Championships, Romar posted her second consecutive team-high finish to give her All-American recognition for the second time this meet as well as in her career. She was fifth in the individual standings after turning in a time of 1:56.46. Her first run had her in second place with a time of 56.16, which was just .04 seconds behind leader and eventual champion Sterling Grant of Denver. On Wednesday, Romar posted a team-best sixth-place finish in the women's giant slalom race at 2:06.98.
Huckova captured All-American status for the sixth time in her career after finishing immediately behind Romar with a sixth-place effort at a time of 1:57.02. Huckova was in third place after the first run thanks to posting a time of 57.45.
In her second career race at the NCAA Championships, Kocken joined her teammates in the top 10 with a ninth-place time of 1:57.96 to give her All-American recognition for the first time in her career.
Krogdahl took fifth in the men's slalom competition after crossing the finish line in 1:42.70. He is now a four-time All-American over his career and twice this season. Earlier in the meet, he posted a seventh-place effort in the men's GS after turning in a time of 2:03.50.
Jeremy Elliot placed 11th after registering a time of 1:44.76 while Ryan Wilson was the 27th finisher with a time of 2:27.27.
Four other Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Skiing Association members joined Utah and Colorado in the top 10 of the final team standings, including New Mexico (fourth, 632 points), Denver (fifth, 592 points), Alaska Anchorage (seventh, 488.5 points) and Montana State (10th, 230 points).
