SALT LAKE CITY - Ali Forsberg's first collegiate goal was the difference as Utah soccer kept its unbeaten mark at home intact with a 2-2 draw against UC Davis this evening.
"I was pleased with the way the team fought tonight," Head Coach Rich Manning said. "We showed determination and heart coming back from deficits on two occasions. It really showed a lot of character."
The sophomore was able to deflect one in at the far corner after a cross by Ashton Hall in the 61st minute. Both players have now scored points in the last two games for the Utes.
After an early miscue led to an own goal, Utah responded when Allie Wisner scored her second goal in as many games, tapping in a short cross along the ground from Avery Ford. For Ford, it was her second helper of the season.
"We have to learn to be a little more aggressive from the opening whistle," Manning added. "I look forward to Sunday and see what kind of intensity we come out and play with."
Both halves featured goals from both teams at almost the exact same marks. UC Davis went ahead in the 6th minute only to see Utah equalize in the 16th. Then, after UCD's Ashley Kawasaki scored on a rocket shot six minutes into the second half, Utah responded 10 minutes later.
Cheyanne Mulcock equaled her personal-best from the contest at BYU by making nine saves against the Aggies. Utah out-shot UCD 21-16 for the contest, but the visitors held a 7-5 edge in corner-kick opportunities.
Utah had a myriad of chances just go awry on the evening. Baylee Nielsen headed a try off the crossbar in the ninth minute and Hall would then ping two long-distance tries off the same piece of woodwork in the second half. Utah even had a ball that appeared to be heading in, cleared off the line by a UCD defender.
"It was a fun atmosphere tonight since this was our first home game at night this season," Manning stated. "We had a lot of alumni in the house tonight and they got to see an entertaining game. I just wish we could've given them a win."
The Utes are back in action on Sunday when they host Weber State at 1 p.m.
