TEMPE, Ariz. - The Utah volleyball team fell to No. 13-ranked Arizona State in Pac-12 Conference play, falling in straight sets (14-25, 17-25, 23-25) to the Sun Devils Friday evening at Wells Fargo Arena.

Utah dropped to 7-13 overall and 1-8 in the Pac-12 with the loss, while Arizona State managed to snap a four-match losing streak, and improve to 16-4 overall and 5-4 in conference play.

Sophomore Eliza Katoa opened the match with a tam-high four kills, but it was not enough as the Sun Devils combined to hit .286 and limit Utah to just a .036 hitting percentage on the way to a 25-14 first-set-win. ASU's BreElle Bailey led all players with five kills in the first set.

The Utes and Sun Devils opened the second set trading points with each other until a 5-0 run put the home team on top, 13-8, and forced Utah to call a timeout. The Utes won three of the next three points, but another 5-0 run helped propel the Sun Devils to a 19-11 lead on the way to taking the second set, 25-17.

After falling behind 8-3, Utah called a timeout and then proceeded to go on a 9-0 run to take a 12-8 lead. The home team countered though, winning 10 of the next 13 points to take an 18-15 lead and forcing Utah to call a timeout. The Utes came out of the break with a 6-2 run to take a 21-20 lead, but ASU managed to record five of the final seven points to take the set 25-23.

Sophomore Adora Anae led the Utes with nine kills and Katoa added eight kills on the evening. Utah totaled 34 kills and combined to hit .094 as a team, while ASU tallied 35 kills and a .227 hitting percentage.

Redshirt freshman Jessie Jorgensen led the team with 19 assists and 10 digs for her seventh double-double of the season. Anae added eight blocks and recorded Utah's only block of the evening.

The Utes return to action on Sunday at No. 14-ranked Arizona. First serve between the Utes and Wildcats is set for 11 a.m. PT/12 p.m. MT at the McKale Center in Tucson, Ariz.
