SAN FRANCISCO-- -
The Pac-12 champion Utah gymnasts are also the league leaders in the classroom, earning a conference-best seven first and second-team honors.
Every eligible Ute made an academic team (freshmen are not eligible for the award). Winning first-team Pac-12 All-Academic honors were Breanna Hughes, Kailah Delaney, Becky Tutka, Georgia Dabritz and Tory Wilson. Named to the second team were Kassandra Lopez and Corrie Lothrop. Baely Rowe earned honorable mention.
Dabritz, who earlier was named the Pac-12 Gymnastics Scholar-Athlete of the Year, makes the all-academic team for a third time. She was a first-teamer last year as well, and made the second team as a sophomore in 2013.
Tutka has made the first team for three straight years, while Wilson made the second team in 2013 and 2014 before moving up to the first team this season. Lothrop is a four-time academic all-conference selection, having made the all-Mountain West team as a freshman in 2011, followed by three years on the All-Pac-12 academic team (honorable mention in 2012, first team in 2013, second team in 2014-15).
Hughes and Delaney are both two-time first-team selections, Lopez has made the team twice (she was honorable mention in 2013) and Rowe, a sophomore, makes her first appearance on the academic team.
To be eligible for selection to an All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and have participated in at least fifty percent of competitions in the regular season. The conference places 12 gymnasts on both the first and second teams, ranking them by cumulative GPA. Others who meet the qualifications are named as honorable mention.
