EUGENE, Ore. -- Sarah Feeny finished second in the 1,500 at the USATF Junior Championships on Saturday afternoon, qualifying her for the 2015 Pan American Junior Athletics Championships. Also earning a strong finish was Megan Glasmann, who finished 10th in the javelin at the senior level late Friday night with a school-record throw.
"What a great meet for us," Utah head coach Kyle Kepler said. "One podium, two medals, and a top ten in the country. That is amazing at one of the most important meets of the year!"
Feeny was with the leaders through 800 meters before taking the lead. She held the lead until she was passed in the final 100 meters. Feeny entered the event as the top seed.
"We are incredibly proud of her and the tremendous effort she gave," Kepler said of Feeny. "She recovered from an injury in early May to run the third-best time of her life!"
The top-two finishers in each event qualify for the Pan-Am Junior team, which will take place July 31-August 2 in Edmonton, Canada.
Glasmann had a throw of 177'0" (53.96 meters) to break her own school record in the event.
"Megan had a terrific night," Kepler said. "To finish in the top ten in the country shows her perseverance after the NCAA preliminaries that didn't go as well as she would have liked. We are proud of her effort."
The Utes had three student-athletes competing in the event. Freshman Shaylen Crook finished sixth in the 5,000 at the USATF Junior Championships on Friday afternoon.
Also competing at championships was former Ute Amanda Mergaert, who finished 18th in the preliminary round of the 1,500 on Friday.
