COLLEGE STATION, Texas –
McKaylie Caesar and
Morgan Jensen of the Utah track & field team punched their ticket to Hayward Field for the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships Thursday evening at E.B. Cushing Stadium when the pair crossed the finish line side-by-side and secured a top-10 finish.
Â
The two become the first pair in program history to qualify for the NCAA Championships in the 10,000m race. Caesar and Jensen are just the third pair in program history to qualify for the championships in the same event. The other two pairs are Emily Venters and Simone Plourde from 2023 (5000m) and Amanda Feigt and Chelsea Shapard from 2007 (400m hurdles).
Â
The Women of Utah got off to a great start with the 1500m trio of
Bri Rinn,
Erin Vringer and
Millie Wilcox all moving on to the quarterfinals on Saturday. Vringer (4:20.96) and Rinn (4:21.18) both earned big Qs in the first heat of the race, finishing in fourth and fifth, respectively. Meanwhile,
Millie Wilcox ran in the fastest section of the evening and finished sixth but managed to earn the top time qualifying spot when she crossed at 4:16.89 – which was good for ninth-overall.
Â
In the 800m run, sophomore
Kyla Martin just missed out on advancing to the quarterfinals when she crossed the finish line at 2:08.32 – which was good for fourth in her heat.
Â
Bailey Kealamakia competed in her first NCAA West Regional meet as an individual on Thursday, posting a mark of 59.46 in the opening round of the 400m hurdles.
Â
Competing in her first regional meet, freshman
Chelsea Amoah just missed out on qualifying for the quarterfinals based on time by a razor thin margin of .03 after recording a time of 23.45. Teammate

Â
The day ended with a thrilling finish down the stretch in the 10,000m race with Caesar and Jensen punching their tickets to NCAA Championships in Eugene finishing side-by-side in seventh and eighth-place, respectively. Thursday's race started out slow and didn't speed up until the halfway point. Utah's quartet that included
Anna Peters and
Clara Mayfield were always within striking distance of the lead pack or with each other.
Â
Caesar (34:15.26) and Jensen (34:15.28) would kick it into high gear in the final 1600m, going stride-for-stride together as they moved up the standings and jumped five spots before crossing the finish line within .02 second of one another to place seventh and eighth, respectively.
Â
Anna Peters was in the hunt at about the 6000m mark but would finish in 16th-place at 34:40.36 in just her second 10k race ever while
Clara Mayfield crossed the finish line with a mark of 35:27.92.
