SAN FRANCISCO—The 2017 Utah gymnastics schedule was released today by the Pac-12 Conference and every meet will be held on a Friday or Saturday. In addition, the Utes drew afternoon start times for three Saturday meets, including one home meet. They will appear seven times on the Pac-12 Networks and will also make their first regular-season appearance on ESPN.
Â
For the first time, the Red Rocks Preview will be televised (Pac-12 Networks on Friday, Dec. 9). Utah's home meet against UCLA on Saturday, Feb. 18 at 8 p.m. will be televised live on ESPNU, marking the first time the ESPN family has televised a Utah home gymnastics meet.
Â
"We think this is a great schedule for our fans," said Utah co-head coach
Tom Farden. "We are thrilled that all of our meets are on Friday and Saturday, when we have proved we can pack our arena and provide a great atmosphere for not only our team, but visiting teams and television audiences. The extensive live television coverage is another great benefit of this schedule. We are not only looking forward to meets televised by the Pac-12 Network—which does a great job with its gymnastics telecasts—but also to making our first regular-season appearance on ESPNU."
Â
The Utes will open their regular season at home against Michigan on Saturday, Jan. 7. Other non-conference meets include a quad meet with Boise State, Denver and Illinois-Chicago on Friday, Jan. 20, and road meets at BYU on Friday, Jan. 13 and Georgia on Saturday, Mar. 11.
Â
Utah has three Pac-12 home meets on the schedule, beginning with California in a Saturday matinee at 1 p.m. on Feb. 4. The first regular-season afternoon meet in school history, held last season against Oregon State, attracted a crowd of 15,550. The Utes also host UCLA (Feb. 18) and Stanford on (Mar. 3).
Â
The entire postseason schedule will be played out on the road, starting with the Pac-12 Championship in Stanford, Calif., on Saturday, Mar. 18. The NCAA Regional championships will be held on Saturday, Apr. 1 at one of six sites: Seattle, Athens, Ga., Fayetteville, Ark., Champaign, Ill., Lincoln, Neb., and Morgantown, W. Va. The 2017 NCAA Championships are slated for Apr. 14-15 in St. Louis, Mo.
Â
