FIRST SERVE
The Utah Utes (11-4, 2-4) open a four-match road swing with a trip through the Bay Area this weekend. Utah will face the California Golden Bears (6-8, 0-4) this Friday, Oct. 7 at 8 p.m. PT and will follow with a Sunday matinée against No. 7-ranked Stanford Cardinal (9-3, 3-1) on Sunday, Oct. 9 at 1 p.m. PT.

ABOUT UTAH
The Utes are coming off a pair of losses to both Los Angeles squads in Salt Lake City this past weekend. Utah fell in straight sets for the first time this season, with a 3-0 loss to then No. 12-ranked UCLA last Friday. Utah dropped just its third match of the season that went five sets, falling to No. 23-ranked USC in five sets on Sunday.

Utah yielded a better hitting percentage to an opposing team for the first time this season as both the Bruins and Trojans outhit the Utes on the weekend. UCLA hit .304 to Utah's .235 effort and USC tallied a .247 hitting percentage, while the Utes recorded a season-low .155 attacking effort.

UCLA tallied just four more kills than Utah (48 to 44) on Friday, but the Bruins posted three more service aces (5 to 2) and a couple more total blocks (8.0 to 6.0) on the way to winning by close scores of 25-23, 25-22 and 25-20.

Despite a 25-kill and 12-dig effort from junior
Adora Anae against USC on Sunday, the Trojans countered with three players notching double-digit kill efforts. The Trojans also went on to out-block the Utes 13.0 to 9.0 in the match.

UTAH LEADERS
Junior
Adora Anae continues to lead the team with 279 total kills. She currently ranks first in the Pac-12 and 19th overall in that category. She is one of only 40 players in the nation to have at least 250 kills and is one of just five players in the Pac-12 to post 200 kills or more on the season.

Anae has posted a team-best 4.73 kills per set, while also leading the team in digs (193) and digs per set (3.27). She is the only player in the nation to average at least 4.7 kills per set and 3.2 digs per set on the season. Her closest competitor is Holy Cross' Mandy Sifferlen, who has tallied 4.89 kills per set and a 3.00 digs per set average.

Bailey Choy leads Utah with 519 assists and a 8.51 assists per set average, while sophomore
Jessie Openshaw follows with 183 assists and 4.46 assists per set.

Choy follows with 10 aces on the season. Anae ranks fifth in the league with 0.36 aces per set, but she is tied for third in the conference with her 21 total aces. She is one of four players in the league with at least 20 aces on the season.

California is coming off losses to #7 Washington (23-25, 27-25, 12-25, 19-25) and #17 Washington State (20-25, 17-25, 22-25) over the weekend. The Golden Bears have dropped four straight to open Pac-12 play and the squad from Berkeley has lost six of its past eight matches. Cal's lone win over the previous eight matches was a 3-1 win over St. Mary's (25-21, 20-25, 25-22, 25-23).
