SALT LAKE CITY – Utah head coach
Amy Hogue announced the promotion of current assistant
Maggie Livreri to associate head coach.
"Maggie is an incredibly valuable piece of my coaching staff," Hogue said. "She is a tireless worker with an unparalleled enthusiasm for this sport. She has an incredible knowledge of the game and has a knack for being able to translate it to our players. I am very proud to have her as a member of our program."
"Thank you to Coach Hogue for this honor," Livreri added. "I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to continue working alongside her, Coach Thomson and Coach Paskins as we build upon the vision we have for Utah Softball. We have reached many milestones as a program and it will be exciting to see what the future brings."
Specializing in player development, Livreri has had a profound impact on the team's hitting. This past season, Utah finished second in the league with 33 doubles while batting .307 and finishing fourth in on-base percentage (.389), runs (121) and slugging (.486).
Pac-12 Player of the Year
Hannah Flippen led the Pac-12 with a .542 batting average, a 1.034 slugging percentage and a .667 on-base percentage. She was also second in a number of categories including total bases, walks, runs scored and hits while clobbering 13 home runs. For her efforts, Flippen was also named a National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-American and earned an invite to the USA Elite Team.
Fellow Ute
Anissa Urtez, a two-time All Pac-12 selection, paced the conference with 16 doubles and her 65 hits were fifth –most of any player in the conference. In Pac-12 play, she had 22 runs batted in, good for sixth overall and for her efforts, she was named to the Mexican National Team after the season.
In 2015, Livreri helped
Kate Dickman rank third in the conference with a .448 batting average, while recording career-highs in doubles (20), home runs (9) and total bases (124). For her career, Dickman finished with a school-record 61 doubles and ranked among the top five all-time in batting average, runs scored, hits, triples and runs batted in.
In her work with catcher
Shelby Pacheco, Livreri helped turn her into one of the most feared backstops in the Pac-12. Pacheco was named to the Pac-12 All-Defensive Team for a second year in a row in 2016 as she threw out 15 base runners. That total was not only the best for an individual, but more than any other team in the Pac-12
Livreri, entering her sixth season with the Utes, was previously an assistant coach at UNLV from 2009-11 after spending the 2007 and `08 campaigns as a volunteer assistant coach. The Rebels went 153-126 (.548) with Livreri on the bench, including an NCAA Tournament appearance in 2009.
The Las Vegas native played two years at UNLV (2005-06) and despite only suiting up for a couple of years, Livreri made a significant impact on the program. She finished ninth in the school record books in career RBI (75) and eighth in career walks (60).
