WEEKEND RECAP
Utah split its weekend series with both Bay Area teams, downing California in straight sets (25-18, 25-21, 25-20) on Friday, but falling to No. 13 Stanford in three sets (22-25, 20-25, 16-25) on Saturday.
Â
UTES TAKE SEASON SERIES FROM GOLDEN BEARS
Utah swept the season series from California for the first time in program history after defeating the Golden Bears in straight sets on Friday. The Utes, who also defeat Cal in straight sets back on Oct. 7 in Berkeley, failed to drop a set against the Bears all season.
Â
UTAH REGISTERS ALL-TIME WIN NO. 750
With its victory over California on Friday, Utah earned its 750th all-time win in program history. The Utes, who won its very first match back on Oct. 17, 1975, picked up the program's 750th win in its 1,363rd match played. Head coach
Beth Launiere, who has 518 career wins at Utah, has accounted for nearly 70 percent of those victories (.691).
Â
POLL TALK
Utah remained at No. 19 for the second straight week in this week's version of the AVCA Top-25 Coaches Poll. The No. 19 ranking matches Utah's highest of the season and it also marks the highest ranking since coming in at No. 18 in the final regular-season poll back on Dec. 22, 2014.
Â
The Utes have earned a top-25 ranking the previous five weeks and six times overall since Sept. 26. Utah has now been ranked or at least received votes in the poll for eight straight weeks dating back to Sept. 19.
Â
#ROADWARRIORS
Utah is 8-2 overall in road matches this season, which marks a new high for road wins since joining the Pac-12 Conference in 2011. The eight wins match a season-high since 2010, when the Utes posted an 8-5 record as a member of the Mountain West Conference.
Â
Utah is tied with Stanford for the third-best road record among Pac-12 teams. Only Washington (10-1) and UCLA (9-3) have a better record. The 8-2 mark also ranks tied for seventh among teams slotted 1-25 in the RPI standings.
Â
#ROADWARRIORS PART II
Utah has tallied a school-record five wins over top-25 ranked teams so far this season. The Utes have defeated No. 9 BYU, No. 16 Colorado, No. 7 Stanford, No. 13 Washington State and No. 24 USC all on the road this season.
Â
Prior to 2016, Utah had never earned more than two road victories over ranked opponents in the same season. The last time Utah registered a pair of wins away from home was back in 2007 when the Utes downed No. 17 Purdue on the road and defeated No. 20 Colorado State at a neutral site.
Â
UTES IN CONFERENCE PLAY
Utah is 8-6 overall in Pac-12 play and just one more win away from matching the program's most wins in league play since joining the Pac-12. The Utes registered nine Pac-12 wins in both 2013 and 2014 (9-11). Most notably, the 8-6 record is Utah's best mark through its first 14 matches of Pac-12 Conference play, surpassing the 6-8 record the Utes recorded in 2013.
Â
MOVING ON UP
Junior
Adora Anae moved into 9th-place all-time in school history for most kills in a career after surpassing Lori Baird (2005-08) with her 1,237th career kill this past weekend. Anae, who heads into this week with 1,239 kills, is now just seven kills away from No. 8 Shelly Sommerfeldt (2002-05, 1,245 kills) and 41 kills behind No. 7 Sharman Grant (1992-94, 1,252 kills).
Â
HISTORY WITH THE DUCKS
Oregon leads the all-time series 12-7 after defeating the Utes in five sets in Salt Lake City earlier this season. Prior to the loss, Utah had won two of the last three matches between the two teams, but both wins have come at home. Utah is just 3-5 all-time when facing the Ducks in Eugene, with its last victory coming back in 2011. Oregon has won three straight at Matthew Knight Arena since the defeat.
Â
HISTORY WITH THE BEAVERS
Oregon State leads the all-time series 10-7, but Utah has won the past two meetings - including a win over Beavers in Salt Lake City earlier this season - and five of the past seven. The Utes are just 1-4 all-time when playing the Beavers in Corvallis, with its only win coming back in 2013. OSU has won the previous two meetings that have been played inside Gill Coliseum and both matches went to five sets. Three of the past four meetings have been gone to a decisive fifth set.
Â
