SAN FRANCISCO—The Utah gymnastics team finished a close second in the 2017 preseason coaches' poll released today. The polling was tight at the top, with defending Pac-12 champion UCLA receiving two more points (47-45) and first-place votes (5-3) than Utah, which won back-to-back Pac-12 titles in 2014 and 2015.
Â
Third in the preseason poll was Stanford with 33 points, followed closely by California with 32. Oregon State, which tied Utah for second at the 2016 Pac-12 Championship, was fifth with 25 points. Rounding out the preseason poll were Arizona (22), Washington (13) and Arizona State (7).
Â
The Pac-12 poll comes on the heels of the national preseason coaches' poll, which predicted Utah would finish sixth in the nation and had seven of the conference's eight gymnastics teams ranked in the top 20.
Â
Utah's 2017 conference schedule includes home meets against California (Feb. 4), UCLA (Feb. 18) and Stanford (Mar. 3). Pac-12 foes that Utah will face on the road are Washington (Jan. 28), Oregon State (Feb. 11) and Arizona State (Feb. 25). Stanford will host the 2017 Pac-12 Championship on Mar. 18.
