SALT LAKE CITY—The annual Red Rocks Preview on Friday, Dec. 9 at 7 p.m. in the Huntsman Center will reach its broadest audience ever. That's because the popular preseason gymnastics preview will be televised live for the first time on the Pac-12 Network. Admission and parking are free and all seating is general admission, allowing early-arriving fans to sit in seats that are normally reserved. The doors will open at 5:30 p.m.
Â
With the live television comes a new format for the Red Rocks Preview. Rather than dividing into two teams, eight gymnasts will compete on each apparatus. The events will run one at a time in the Olympic order (vault, bars, beam, floor) and the routines will not be scored.
Â
The first 2,500 spectators will receive a pack of Utah gymnastics trading cards and the 2017 team poster. The gymnasts will sign the posters after the meet. The Kid Zone at portal 6 opens at 5:30 p.m. and will feature Santa and Mrs. Claus, a poster-making station, face painting, a balloon artist and more.
Â
A school-record 8,240 season tickets have already been sold, resulting in more seats have been opened up for season sales. Seats available for purchase will be marked with white balloons. Fans may purchase season tickets at the ticket office by portal 23. Tickets start as low as $30 in the upper bowl and $40 in the lower bowl. The home schedule includes meets against Michigan (Jan. 7), Boise State/Denver/Illinois-Chicago (Jan. 20), California (Feb. 4), UCLA (Feb. 18) and Stanford (Mar. 3).
Â
Fans at the preview will renew their acquaintance with eight returning letterwinners, among them All-Americans
Kari Lee,
Baely Rowe,
Sabrina Schwab and
Maddy Stover.
Â
Making their Ute debut at the Red Rocks Preview will be freshmen
Missy Reinstadtler,
MyKayla Skinner and
Kim Tessen, as well as sophomore transfer
Macey Roberts. Skinner, an alternate for the gold medal 2016 USA Olympic Team, placed fourth in the all-around at the Olympic Trials. She was the 2016 Glasgow World Cup all-around champion. Reinstadtler and Tessen are both Junior Olympic National champions.
