INDIANAPOLISÂ After her record-breaking performance from last week, Utah Valley University guard Deijah Blanks has been added to the NCAA's Women's Basketball Starting Five by NCAA.com. The recognition follows her WAC Player of the Week honor on Monday.
Blanks, a sophomore from San Diego (Mount Miguel HS), had a perfect night from the floor on Feb. 18 against Chicago State, going 10-for-10 from the field and 7-for-7 on free throws en route to 29 points and 10 rebounds in a 69-62 win over the Cougars. She followed that up with a 5-for-7 game at Missouri-Kansas City, scoring 13 points to help UVU get the 58-44 win. She averaged 21 points per game, 7.5 rebounds per game and 2.0 steals per game as the Wolverines moved into a tie for second-place in the WAC standings.
Blanks' perfect shooting night gave her the UVU school record for an individual player's field goal percentage with 100 percent with a minimum of 10 field goals made. The previous school record in field goal percentage was set by All-American Robyn Fairbanks (2006-09) with a 10-of-11 shooting night. Blanks is the first Wolverine to shoot a perfect night with a minimum of 10 field goals made. With the perfect shooting night, Blanks became just the fourth player this entire season in all of NCAA Division I to be perfect with 10 or more shots made (10-10 FG). Of those four perfect shooters, Blanks had the most FT's with 7-7, and was the only one to make any 3FG's, with 2-2 on the night.
Utah Valley will host their final home contest on Saturday Feb. 27 against Seattle U at 3 pm. MT in the PE Building.Â
