The No. 7 Utah gymnasts (4-0, 2-0 Pac-12) will face their stiffest test to date on Saturday, Feb. 6 vs. No. 5 UCLA (2-2, 1-1 Pac-12) in Los Angeles. Utah and UCLA have combined to win three of the four Pac-12 Championships to date. Utah is the two-time defending Pac-12 Champion and the preseason favorite to repeat in 2016. UCLA won the inaugural Pac-12 Championship in 2012 and was the preseason No. 2 pick. Utah has qualified for a record 40-straight national championships with 10 national titles (nine NCAA), while UCLA has made the championships 33 times and has six NCAA titles. Utah was No. 7 in the Monday, Feb. 1 rankings, which did not include its season-high 197.150 scored Monday night. Utah is No. 3 on bars (49.292 average), No. 5 on beam (49.125) and No. 8 on vault (49.125). All-America sophomore Kari Lee suffered a season-ending injury in practice on Jan. 26, tearing her left Achilles tendon. She underwent surgery on Jan. 29. Lee was a three-time All-American and a two-event NCAA event finalist as a freshman in 2015. She was Utah's only all-arounder in the first three meets this season and had victories in the all-around and on the balance beam.Chalk Talk
Utah's high scores this season are 9.90 on vault (Breanna Hughes twice), 9.95 on bars (Baely Rowe),9.925 on beam (Maddy Stover) and 9.975 on floor (Samantha Partyka) … Through the first four meets, Utah has won 15-of-16 individual event titles and two all-arounds … Ute winners: Hughes (6), Rowe (3), Kailah Delaney (2), Kari Lee (2), Partyka (2), Schwab (2), Stover (2) and Kassandra Lopez (1) … The Utes are 90-96 in hit routines (routines without a fall). With the season-ending injury to Kari Lee, senior Breanna Hughes and sophomore Samantha Partyka competed in the all-around for the first time on Monday against Arizona.
