Utah Vault Notes: MaKenna Merrell didn't get much pop off the vault and she landed with her chest low and took a step forward. Kassandra Lopez looked good in the air but didn't control her landing with a step back. Nice big vault by Baely Rowe. She got a lot of flight, landed deep on the mat and had a nice landing. Tiffani Lewis got high off the vault, but she, too, mishandled her landing. Breanna Hughes had a great overall vault. She almost stuck it cleanly, but couldn't quite hang on long enough for a total stick. I guess practice is overrated, because she came in cold and just nailed that vault. She had great amplitude, distance and stuck the landing. Can't believe she didn't score higher.

Utah Bar Notes: Fantastic bar set was led off with a 9.825 by Sam Partyka. Nice handstands. She had a little step on her dismount. Big routine by Tiffani Lewis. Great form on swings and handstands and nailed her landing. Sabrina Schwab swung beautifully and all but one handstand were spot on. Stepped on her dismount. Kassandra Lopez threw a sky high Tkachev that drew a gasp from the crowd. Great handstands and dismount. Breanna Hughes' routine deserved that 9.975. It was flat out perfect. Big time routine for Breezy. Baely Rowe had a nice routine, nice stick. She was a little short on two handstands.

Utah Beam Notes: Trust me on this. The only thing wrong with Samantha Partyka's routine was she was first one up. That was flat out beautiful. She didn't wobble once, leaps were high and cleanly executed, stuck landing. Great routine. Too bad my scores don't count because both Sam and MaKenna Merrell would have received perfect scores. That's the best beam routine I've seen MaKenna do and she got a 9.775. I'm guessing she missed a connection after her front aerial. There's no other explanation. I decided to wait and see what Breanna Hughes scored before raving about it and luckily she got a 9.875 so I can tell you the routine was beautiful. That might be the best I've seen her land that cool dismount. Kassandra Lopez rocked that routine. She was steady as a rock and no one plants a front aerial somersault as emphatically as Kass. Baely Rowe just gave Kass some competition for that title because she also killed that somersault and everything else. She did a walk through routine. What a night on beam! Maddy Stover put an exclamation point to a great set with a 9.925. Her only mistake was a small balance check after that leap where she kicks herself in the back of the head. If you didn't see this meet live, you need to see it delayed. This beam set was unreal.

Utah Floor Notes: MaKenna Merrell landed her tumbling passes very cleanly. I'm not sure where her deductions came from unless it was her leaps weren't high enough. Tiffani Lewis absolutely nailed her full in and also finished nicely with a clean double back. I only saw her warm up one full in, so I thought she'd open with a double pike, but good call to go with the full in. It was a beauty. I don't know enough about judging to know where Baely Rowe was hit. She had a blast on that routine and I thought her tumbling looked big and clean. Maddy Stover's only stumble came on her first tumbling pass, which she couldn't quite control at the end. Nice routine and I think she should get extra tenths for her smile! Beautiful tumbling, dance and leaps from Sabrina Schwab. She put on a clinic on whatever that twisting element she does at the end is. I'm wondering if her error came on her second tumbling pass, which was blocked to me by cameramen. Breanna Hughes' routine was beautiful. Like Sabrina, she stuck that last tumbling pass so solid, it was hard to even think of where she might have lost a tenth. Possible step on the first pass is a guess.
